Free Music Review: PINBACK is PEERLESS... proven again by Autumn of the Seraphs

Rob & Zach are in a league of their own. Creating lyrically interesting and intricately layered music... delivering album after album of mind blowing prog "math" pop rock. Can ya tell I like them? They have NEVER disappointed me with any of their releases. While there music is moody, sometimes even melodramatic... it is NOT depressing, it just makes you FEEL. Rob has the most beautiful, incomparable voice and Zach's beatific backing seamlessly blends - these men were meant to work together. Their unique transitions and sick riffs kill. Everything they do is ground breaking and unrivaled. The standout tracks on Autumn of the Seraphs (which has already made my hall of fame) are: the bittersweet "Bouquet", the defiant "Torch", the jubilant "Blue Harvest" and the hard charging "From Nothing to Nowhere". Amazing job guys - Pinback is & has been one of my favorite bands of all time.

Fueled by Rob Crow's trenchant if depressing lyrics and his sweet, high pitched vocals, Pinback employs the old sad-words-plus-pretty-pop-music dichotomy to the best effect yet on Autumn Seraphs. In the three years since Pinback last released an album, nerdy, self-deprecating, sensitive indie-rock has continued to climb in popularity, from mid-sized concert halls to the stadiums. The San Diego-based duo's fourth release is really their poppiest and most accessible to date, as even the most cursory listen to the obvious single, the Heatmiser-ish "Nothing to Nowhere" will attest. Perhaps they can get their songs onto Gossip Girl or The Hills and be playing Madison Square Garden next week? You get the sense that Zach Smith and Rob Crow would be making their levitating pop music whether it was for a drunken house party crowd or in some giant dome. --Mike McGonigalTheir fourth full-length and second on Touch And Go contains melodies that are more dynamic and aggressive. This record is tighter, the drumming more immediate and crisp. "Autumn Of The Seraphs" is for both rabbits and people, for good days and for bad.
