I've listened to this album several times through now, and the only thing I have to say about it is, "meh." It has some nice tunes and a peaceful ambience to it, and the songs are fairly well written, but there's not too much in the way of originality, and it's not exciting. Every time I've been left thinking it's decent background music, but nothing has compelled me to go out and buy all their albums, and I never have a strong desire to spin it for any reason other than "I'll give it another chance."
"From Where I'm Standing" is the best track for me, but it is a short apex. It is followed by "Light Up Your Eyes I", which actually got a little irritating at the end with its over-the-top repetition. A few other tracks are worth listening to, but the album as a whole is lethargic.
As far as the comparisons to Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, and others? All of those artists have one thing in common: at one point, they come up with something new and interesting. Pineapple Thief, on the other hand, seems to be more in the Coldplay mold: their goal is to avoid offending anybody's taste at the expense of creativity.
