Free Music Notes for Dark Side Of The MoonFree Music Review: Floyd's best Hit: 5 StarsThis ambient, mysterious album sounds just as fresh as it did in 1973. Waters' lyrics are deep and meaningful, and Gilmour's solos are jaw-dropping. But whats amazing about this album is how coherent it is. Each track seems to flow right into the next, and I couldn't imagine the order of the songs being different. The sound effects (like the clinking of coins in Money and the chiming of clocks in Time) really add to atmosphere of the music. Really incredible work, here.
This is when Floyd acheived perfection.
Free Music Review: A Necessary Addition To Your Music Collection Hit: 5 StarsThere is something magical about this album. The creative genius and lyricist that is Roger Waters; the etheral, melancholy guitar sounds by David Gilmour; the beautifully composed piano and keyboard pieces by Rick Wright; or the simple but effective percussion by Nick Mason - this is Pink Floyd's best work in my opinion. I don't think this because it's their best selling album of all time, but when I listen to it, it actually SOUNDS like their most collaborative work; you can hear where each of them put their mark on it. It's also the first Pink Floyd album where they really developed that very recognizable "Floyd sound." If you love Pink Floyd, you understand what I'm talking about. It's focused, it's groundbreaking for it's time, and more important - it's timeless. Everything from the guitar solos, the lyrics, the transitions, the "voices" - it's catchy and simple but it moves you. If you don't already have this in your music collection, I suggest you download it or pick it up ASAP. It might just change your life.

Free Music Review: One Of The Best Albums Ever Hit: 5 StarsIt is always difficult to say what the best album ever made was, and of course people will all have different opinions and crtitics will have different lists. And despite all the caveats, this has to be on anyone's list, even those who may not be fans of so-called "progressive" music.
Though it has been said before, listening to Dark Side of The Moon on a very good set of headphones is a very worthwhile way of listening to the record. The nuances and of the musicianship, arrangement and production can really be heard.
Atmoshpere builds and changes happen throughout as each shift in the field of listening adds to the songs. From the opening of Speak To Me where the themes of what is to come, to the hypnotic synthesizer of On The Run, to Time and throughout the rest of the record each song weaves into the next and changes into something else.
Though critics may say it is old or would only appeal to older listeners, I am not a baby boomer nor am I a progressive rock fan. It is not that I dislike progressive rock, it is not that I would call myself a fan. But Pink Floyd in the records are a different standard of music, and this record is one of their masterpieces.
Some of their other records, particularly The Wall, may be more accessible to people to start with due to the more "pop" aspects of that record - meaning that the songs such as "Hey You", "Another Brick in the Wall" and "Comfortably Numb" could be easier to hear the first time and catch onto them, but their is a reason why many consider this their best work, in addition to be one of the best records.
Tremendous sales and popularity of a record are not always an indicator of whether a record is good, more so today when bands come and go in a flash based on popularity or publicity. Dark Side of The Moon is one of those records where sales are actually a good indicator of how good the music is.
