Free Music Review: The last great Floyd album

Many people argue that this record should just be considered a Waters solo album with the other band members being session musicians. Could we not argue the same thing for a Momentary Lapse with David Gilmour being the lead player? I find the The Final Cut to be a superior album to a Momentary Lapse of Reason and is also one of the best Floyd records, sound-quality wise. The music is extremely dark and melancholy. Perhaps darker than the previous albums, but do we really expect light-hearted material from Pink Floyd's concept albums? The album does not go without its flaws. I do agree that Waters was too ambitious. He thought for those years that he was the epitome of the band. Songs like "Get your filthy hands off my desert" and "Your Possible Pasts" are proof of this and also the albums quiet nature(except, "Not Now, John"). These shortcomings are balanced with amazing tracks like The Gunner's Dream, Two Suns in the Sunset and The Final Cut(which I think is the best track). It may not be as good as the Wall or Wish You Were Here, but it is truly their last great album. People like to crticize Waters for being as ambitious as he is, but after creating the concepts behind Dark Side and the Wall, it is understandable that he would want to have more control to create the music that he wants. If you decide to listen to this album, try your utmost to be as objective as possible and think of it as Pink Floyd, not Roger Waters.
