Free Music Notes for I'm Not Dead

Free Music Review: Like a fine wine....
Hit: 5 Stars

After setting a high bar with her previous work, Pink has somehow outdone herself with what is by far the album of the year, or maybe even the last 5 years. I listen to a lot of music, and can honestly say that it has been a long time that I have been moved and moved along to, such great music. From start to finish, this is a stellar record, with songs to dance to, cry to, drive to, work out to, and reflect to..

As expected, lyrically this is a very profound album. It tackles issues like self-image (Stupid Girls), politics and rights (Dear Mr. President), teen angst (Runaway), war (I Have Seen the Rain), isolation and self-loathing (Conversations With..) and hooking up (U and Ur Hand).

Potential buyers should know that there is no consistent theme on this album. It will break any notions you have of categorizing Pink as a "pop" or "rock" artist. "I'm Not Dead" is simultaneously a dance album, an R&B album, a rock record, a pop record and somehow also a folk record.

Stand out tracks (by far) are "U and Ur Hand" (produced by super producer Max Martin of Britney Spears "One More Time" fame) "Cuz I Can" (must be released as a single!) and "Dear Mr. President" - a phenomenal collaboration with the Indigo Girls.

The album starts on a mid-tempo note with Stupid Girls, and picks up halfway into a more dance/rock mode, then moving toward a down-tempo ballad mode with more bluesy songs with a whole lot of soul.

While the commercial and business sense of marketing Pink as a teen-pop packaged artist confounds me. Her talents, musics and thoughts span a multitude of demographics outside of the TRL crowd. This album will hopefully set the stage for a wider audience for her music, and set this woman up for the long-term success she deserves.

After rewarding artists like Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson, the Grammys' will hopefully recognize a woman whose talents and song-writing abilities continue to surprise and grow.

Free Music Review: Thank goodness!
Hit: 5 Stars

Alecia Moore, where have you been? We took you home in 2000 with “Can’t Take me Home”, we totally understood you when you were “M!ssundaztood” in 2001, we tried “Try This” in 2003 - and then you left us without even a note.

Now that we know that you’re okay, we want to say thank goodness you’re okay, congratulations on your marriage, and thanks for this great new album.

Lead off single and first track “Stupid Girls” is a scathing commentary on the extra-skinny (and bulimic) popular girls (and celebrities) who would do anything to extend their 15 minutes of fame, while second track “Who Knew” immediately takes down the pace, P!nk style, about lost love.

“I wish I could touch you again
I wish I could still call you a friend
I'd give anything”

Third track “Long Way to Happy” is another song about break-ups and recovery, and very emotionally done. Another sad song follows with “Nobody Knows”, and then she controversially takes on George W. Bush with her open letter about poverty and homelessness.

Other can’t-miss tracks are the title track, and the up tempo and often naughty tracks that follow it, such as “Cuz I Can”; my favorite (albeit expletive ridden) “Leave Me Alone (I’m Lonely)” and second single “U & Ur Hand” which would stop a pick-up artist dead in his tracks. Listen up also for the hidden track with her Dad, which he wrote, according to P!nk, back in Vietnam about 40 years ago, and was the first song she ever performed.

The UK album has two extra tracks “Fingers” and “Centerfold”, two songs that make it worthwhile getting the UK version of this album.

The songs on this album more than prove that P!nk’s not dead, but still ready to tell it like it is.

Free Music Review: Best Album I Have Bought This Year!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is easily the best album I have bought this year! It's absolutely amazing from beginning to end! It's extrmely dissapointing that the album has not been as well receieved here in the US as it has been overseas. But anyway, here is the rundown of my fav songs in the order they appear on the album:

1. Stupid Girls-its the 1st single. everyone knows this song. very funny song, but also very good. has a good message if you look beyond the shallowness of it. :) 3.5/5

2. Who Knew-2nd single from the album. one of my top 3 favs. amazing song. i can relate very much. fav part of the song is the bridge right before the final course when she says "THAT LAST KISS I'LL CHERISH UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. TIME MAKES IT HARDER...YOU VISIT ME IN MY SLEEP..." ugh! i just love it! 5/5

3. Long Way To Happy-another brilliant track. Great rock ballad. Amazing lyrics again. I don't understand how one can write such great lyrics! 4/5

4. Dear Mr. President-this is another of my top 3 favs. the words are just amazing and powerful. to see her perform this song live is s0o0o emotional. her vocals are amazing! 5/5

5. I'm Not Dead-another top 3 fav. this song is just GREAT! i dont really know what to say about it, but its awesome. 5/5

6. Cuz I Can-this song is awesome! its so funny! i luv it! absolutely histarical and so straight-forward! gotta luv P!NK. 4/5

7. Leave Me Alone(I'm Lonely)-another great one. awesome song. also very funny, but totally practical and understandable! luvs it! 4/5

8. Fingers-This song is on the International version of the album. Its about "self-stimulation". Really good song. So very 80's! I luv it! 4/5

All in all the album is AMAZING! Not 1 song I don't like on here! P!nk did a really amazing job! You'd be missing out if you don't have it! Other amazing unreleased/bsides to download are "Centerfold" and "Heartbreaker" which are probably my two fav songs from this album's era!

Free Music Review: Not Just Floating
Hit: 5 Stars

At one time, the Pink force was lumped together with Britney, Jessica and the like, but since her debut in 2000, she has constantly impressed not only me, but the critics alike.

Doing a 180 in music styles with Mizundastood, and then bringing in Rancid to help her with my favorite release Try This - Pink has continued to amaze me with her voice, her attitude and her take on multiple genres of pop music.

With I'm Not Dead, the whole thing continues. Dropping most of the hard rock feel of Try This, she doesn't go into dance mode or even dance pop, instead she creates a hybrid of everything and most importantly doesn't lose one ounce of that Pink punk spunk.

With the lead off single "Stupid Girls" her attitude shines through the pop blend but the other songs combine both her need to express herself and to indulge in various music stylings. Bringing on the Indigo Girls for the mostly acoustic and severely scathing "Dear Mr. President", Pink and the girls force feed Bush some medicine ("What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away/ and what kind of father would hate his own daughter if she were gay/ I can just imagine what the First Lady has to say/ You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine...").

On the poppiest of the bunch "Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)" we are led into the all too familiar mode of wanting to be alone while wanting to be with your lover - "All I ask for is one f*cking hour." There's the tender ballads that Pink makes all her own as she even has a conversation with her 13 year old self. There's also fun little tracks where the brunt of

Pink's wrath is her own self worth and in sarcastic tones, Pink can celebrate money and fame then turn around and denounce - which may seem like a jumbled mess on paper, but when she pulls it off it says tons about her talent. The critics on this one are not wrong - this is one hell of an album and I can't recommend it enough.

Free Music Review: I think the real P!nk has finally come out...
Hit: 5 Stars

While I don't own the previous album (only the first two), I feel that this collection is the best showcase of what P!nk is all about. From her acoustic ballad roots as a youth to cutting edge pop/R&B of today - the whole album is stamped with her signature "style". Maybe it has something to do with the fact she produced this one herself. Or maybe that she's just matured and feels comfortable marching to her own beat...who really knows!

This is the only P!nk album I can listen to start to finish. While "Stupid Girls" is a clinical, radio-ready single - at least the lyrics are different from run-of-the-mill songs about puppy love. Plus the beat is great. The next track "Who Knew" is deep and well performed. "Mr. President" starts off in a very unexciting way, but by the end you feel like giving P!nk a high-five - unless you're pro-G.W. (I was a little disappointed that the Indigo Girls mainly supplied backing vocals on the track though). My personal favorites are "U + Ur Hand" which has edgy-rock sound and very understandable to any woman who has had to deal with the 'bar scene' and "The One That Got Away" which is an tight acoustic ballad that really proves that P!nk is a real singer and just not a cute face lip-syncing in a music video.

My only gripe with the album (which won't bother many people, I realize) is that at times the profanity in the songs sounds gimmicky. Many tunes are musically sound and could have a wider appeal if not "tainted" by four letter word such-and-such. But I guess that's what radio-edits are for! P!nk should be very proud of this latest release. It shows that even in today's cut throat music industry; some truly talented artists can be unique and popular at the same time. Plus it's still an asset to be able to sing well.
