Free Music Notes for Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End

Free Music Review: Bravo Zimmer!
Hit: 5 Stars

This review is late in coming, but the fact is it's hard to find words to describe Hans Zimmer's work for "At Worlds End." Zimmer has developed old themes, created new ones, and used his "trademark" Zimmer orchestration to produce one of the best film scores that has ever existed.

Much of the music from "At World's End" is from the previous two movies. Whether it is Jack's theme or simply the three ascending notes heard in the final scene of "Dead Man's Chest", Zimmer has not only utilized but expanded on the past music, bringing it to yet another higher level. His variations on different themes not only keep the music new and fresh, but are also arguably better than the original themes themselves.

Zimmer has also created many new themes. The theme introduced in "Up Is Down" is so epic it will leave you speechless. The love theme first heard in "At Wit's End" is hard to describe. The best word I can come up with is "sweeping." It's broad, deep, and very effective at drawing the listener into the music. And then there is "Hoist The Colors". First played as a dreary death march, it is later transformed into a stirring anthem. These new themes are one of the best parts of the soundtrack.

Finally, all of this is done in Zimmer's classic style. I am no composer, but when I listen to Zimmer I know he must be doing something right.

My favorite tracks are "Singapore", "At Wit's End", "Up Is Down", "What Shall We Die For", "I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time", and "Drink Up Me Hearties".

Despite the great score I didn't like the movie. Hans Zimmer spoiled Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski with his great work. Too bad their work couldn't match it.

Free Music Review: It was an amazing cd
Hit: 5 Stars

I was plesently surprised by this cd. I thought it was better then Dead Man's Chest but I still like the Black Pearl more.
Hoist the Colours- 4.5/5 I just wish it were longer, you hear pieces of it throughout but I swear it was longer in the movie
Singapore- 5/5 traditional pirates song with oriental instruments mixed in
At Wit's End- 5/5 one of the best songs on the cd
Multiple Jacks- 4/5 not everyones cup of tea, its good don't get me wrong but a bit werid, but considering the scene....
Up is Down- 4.5/5 its a fun song, it took me awhile to like, i didn't like it till after I saw the movie
I See Dead People in Boats- 5/5 lovely sad piece, it can be haunting, it gets energetic the last few minutes
The Brethren Court- 4/5 has some of Multiple Jacks in it then there is some haunting singing and then fun music thats like carnival music but not...just listen to the song
Parlay 4/5 its good but i usually skip over this song
Calypso- 4/5 my least favorite song, but I still like it
What Shall We Di For- 5/5 one of my favorites, uplifting song
I Don't Think Now is The Best Time- 5/5 the best song (to me) i just wish it were longer
One Day- 5/5 I really like this song, its sad and calm which is a nice break from the last song
Drink up me Hearties- 5/5 one of my favorites, maybe the second best song after I Don't Think Now is The Best Time
Overall its a good cd, but I just wish they put every song on the cd. I know it would be like two disks or something, but there are songs or part of songs thats missing that I wish they put on the cd.

Free Music Review: Best of the Trilogy Soundtracks
Hit: 5 Stars

Amazing! I have to say that I've been a Zimmer fan for a long time, and when the first Pirates soundtrack hit, I loved the music, but found that almost all the songs were just variations of the main theme. It was hard to tell the difference from one song to the next (with a few outstanding exceptions). Having said that, I still loved it. The second was just as good, and even had a few new themes that didn't play off the first movie. The Kraken theme and Jack Sparrow were excellent new introductions that sounded familiar but were different from the first soundtrack.

Now with the third, we have all kinds of new themes, including the fantastic "Hoist the Colors" that permeates most of the songs, but in different ways each time. The fantastic score hasn't gotten old for me, and I have over-listened to it. I have the CD in my car, and the mp3's on my player, my laptop at work, and my computer at home.

Someone else gave a great review of the separate tracks, and I have to agree with all but two of them: First is Singapore - I loved it, and though it isn't the best on the soundtrack, it is a great intro to the action in the movie and memorable for it's oriental/pirates mixed flavor (I would rate it at least an 8.5). Second is Parlay - for some reason, the electric instruments in that are strong and bring the parlay scene strongly to my mind when I hear it (again, at least an 8).

Do yourself a favor, if you love movie music like I do, pick this one up, and if you don't like it the first time, listen to it entirely at least 3 times, you'll fall in love with it.

Free Music Review: Best of the Pirate Scores
Hit: 5 Stars

Zimmer's second offering in the Pirates of the Caribbean series easily blows both the Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest (easily the weakest of the scores) right out of the water. At World's End has not left my CD player since I got it about two weeks ago.

Easily the best cues are "At Wit's End," where the absolutely magnificent main theme is introduced, "Up is Down" which brings in and also transforms Jack's theme from the first two films, "I Don't Think Now is the Best Time," which is a ten minute action cue that is easily one of Zimmer's best action work of his career; the music picks up a relentless base-line of action music over which Zimmer brilliantly weaves four different themes together in and out, over top one another, "One Day," which takes the big climactic theme from "One Last Shot" from Curse of the Black Pearl and transforms it along with a breath-taking restatement of the main theme from "At Wit's End," and weaves the two together, and the finale cue, "Drink Up Me Hearties," which includes a restatement of those classic themes from "He's a Pirate," on Curse of the Black Pearl, this time sustained longer than a minute, and also includes what is possibly the best statement of the At World's End main theme for the last two minutes.

At World's End is easily some of Zimmer's best work. It is bombastic and epic, but it is also much more densely layered - the orchestra feels much more rich and full than usual - and has a touch of subtlety about it that may take Zimmer fans by surprise.

Free Music Review: Hoist The Colours!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have always been a fan of soundtracks. I really adore the works of Harry Gregson-Williams, Danny Elfman and, of course, John Williams. I now can say I have a new composer that I can add to my list; Hans Zimmer, the composer for Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest, At World's End and he also Overproduced the score for The Curse of the Black Pearl. Compared to past "attempts" I believe that Hans Zimmer has hit the jackpot.

The CD "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" is unbelievably the best CD of the three. It contains 13 tracks including, one of my favorites, Hoist the Colours (the song the boy sings at the beginning of the movie, which becomes the back tone of the entire movie). It is a must buy for all soundtrack, movie, Disney and pirate lovers. I have never listened to a soundtrack this much since John Williams Star Wars Episode 1 Special Edition CD.

But there is a draw back for me. The CD is a Digipak. A Digipak is a CD that has cardboard-like outside rather than a plastic cover like most CD's. I don't `hate' them, I just don't like seeing things of mine getting ripped. So if you don't want your case/album art warped, get it on iTunes.

Overall it is a great CD and a must buy! " Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" soundtrack gets 5 stars out of 5.

My name is Amone. Adios!
