Free Music Review: Power to the People
Hit: 4 Stars

Poison, one of the 80's first Glam Bands, has made a minor comeback with their newest release from Cyanide Records, "Power to the People". It is a minor comeback, because of the 13 tracks on the disk, only 5 are new. Poison fans will barely recognize Bret Michaels' new raspiness in the album's title track, but it zings just the same. "Can't Bring Me Down", "The Last Song", and "Strange" are more recognizable as Poison's trademark music, and will likely earn them a few new fans, as well as pleasing the masses of 80's children that made them who they are. The one true surprise on "Power" is "I Hate Every Bone in Your Body but Mine" sung by guitarist C.C. Deville. This song is more of a crossover to the music of today, but the lyrics and the attitude it conveys are pure Poison. The other 8 tracks are live concert outtakes, and are sure to make heads bang once again, as they haven't done in nearly a decade. Besides the expected hits, "Every Rose Has it's Thorn", "Unskinny Bop", and Poison's first hit, "Talk Dirty To Me", the disk offers such treats as "Let it Play", "Look What the Cat Dragged In", and solos by lead guitarist C.C. Deville, and drummer Rikki Rockett. This disk is sure to please any die-hard Poison fan. It will also draw a stream of newcomers who will soon discover the passion that Bret, Rikki, C.C., and Bobby were able to inspire in an entire generation of people, back when "candy apple green" was a way of life.

Free Music Review: The Kings of Glam return.
Hit: 4 Stars

Essentially this is another "greatest hits live" record with five new studio recordings. Those five new studio recordings are really the only reason to buy 'PTTP' in my book. They are all very fun to listen to thus proving that C.C.'s return as Poison's one and only original guitarist was definitely NOT a waste. Interestingly, C.C. makes his lead vocal debut on "I Hate Every Bone In Your Body But Mine" which is a good, simple party song but I still prefer Bret's four tunes that preceeded it.

Those who are not that familar with Poison as a band, let me tell you straight up that you are better off checking out their greatest hits cd first which will give you a much better understanding of how the band really sounds like, how they have progressed and so forth. Really 'Power To The People' is a collector's souvenir. The sound quality (or lack of) on the live tunes is absolutely pathetic and if you are interested in hearing a much better quality live performance from Poison, then buy 'Swallow This Live' which is fifty times better than the one's on here.

The bottom line: If you are unfamiliar with Poison at this point, go with their greatest hits. If you are a diehard fan (not casual) of Poison like I am, then 'Power To The People' is a must because not only does it mark the return of C.C. Deville as lead guitarist, but it also marks the return of the real Poison. Look out fans, 'Hollyweird' is coming our way in two months!...

Free Music Review: New Poison? How I can resist...
Hit: 4 Stars

These guys write great, catchy songs. that's it, period. Everyone who hates this band, especially Ross Halfin ( seen in the behind the music episode ) get off your high horse, because you wish you could write songs like these guys do. Poison has stood the test of time, and the five new songs on this record prove it. I saw them on this tour, and once people get used to hearing ' power to the people ', they should think about opening up with it, because it's the PERFECT song to open with, aggressive, heavy, just rocks hard. ' can't bring me down ' should be a huge hit, but we all know great songs don't become hits anymore, especially if you're a ' hair band ', an unfair label made popular by those wanker ' hey aren't we cool ' twits at MTV. So out of these 5 new cuts, we also get a really nice ballad, pure Poison all the way, and a song sung by C.C...a song you won't get sick of listening to, it's alot of fun. I'm really not sure why they put out more live stuff, because it's pretty much the same as ' swallow this live ', but it's cool to listen to because i was at the nashville show they recorded at last summer, plus who am I to complain? I'll take anything by Poison i can get my hands on. If you're a Poison fan, get this. It's worth it just for the five new songs alone. If their new album is gonna sound anything like that, I'm ecstatic.

Free Music Review: Great new tracks
Hit: 4 Stars

Great new songs, the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is because this cd should have been a complete new studio album.
The live hits have been done on 'Swallow this' and once is enough in my opinion. Looking back now they should have made 'Swallow this' a live hits only album and saved the new tracks from that album for this one. They also could have added some b-sides and you would have a great album.
FOR EXAMPLE
'Power to the people'
1. Rock N Roll All Night - cover
2. Livin' For The Minute - B-Side
3. So Tell Me Why - new track from 'swallow'
4. Soul On Fire - new track from 'swallow
5. Only Time Will Tell - new track from 'swallow'
6. No More Lookin' Back - new track from 'swallow'
7. Power To The People
8. Can't Bring Me Down
9. The Last Song
10. Strange
11. I Hate Every Bone
12. Face The Hangman - B-side
13. When The Whip Comes Down - B-side
14. Hey Good lookin - cc
15. Talk Dirty To Me - Dance version
16. Fallen Angel - Version 2 (slow version)
17. Good Love - Unplugged
18. Let It Play - Unplugged

Free Music Review: Chemistry is back!
Hit: 4 Stars

It's nice to see a new Poison album featuring old axe-man C.C. Deville. I guess I didn't realize how much he was missed until I heard this CD. After the anemicly boring "Crack A Smile" (sorry I know this one had a lot of fans), this was a nice change. The new studio tracks are very high in energy, and most importantly, they are fun and filled with the old chemistry again. CC's vocals on "I Hate Every Bone in Your Body But Mine" are just very fun. this song has a punk-rock feel to it, but you can definitely hear Poison on this track. Along with that, my other favorite track had to be "The Last Song." This is a very sweet, very well written song about his "last Day" and what he would say to his true love. It's a little syruppy sweet, but it's a very telling, catchy song that will likely get air play if distributed and released properly. I enjoyed this; I hope you will too. my only wish is that this could have been 10-15 new tracks instead of having yet another live album, but I tell you honestly, the studio tracks make this worth the money.
