What starts out as what could have been their greatest work quickly warps into a party disc. In contrast with thematic content, a big middle chunk remains merely fun, albeit with some underlying intelligence that occasionally inspires. Even at their pop-locked best however, it was clear The Police were still refining an already masterful chemistry.
