Free Music Notes for Good Gods Urge

Free Music Review: Pure Atmospheric Bliss
Hit: 5 Stars

First things first. With Porno For Pyros, Perry Farrell was NOT trying to recreate Jane's Addiction. That being said, this is a wonderful album that is way underappreciated. Porno is best know for the quirky song "Pets" off their debut, a solid album in itself, but this album is definetly their masterwork.

The album begins with "Porpoise Head", a trippy, lazy song that makes the listener melt into the chair. "100 Ways" is a brilliant song. Also very laid back as is much of the album. It definetly doesn't pack the Jane's punch, but that is NOT a bad thing. "Tahitian Moon" has one of the catchiest bass lines ever, and is another great tune.

I won't spoil the album by going through it song by song, all you need to know is that this is the perfect album to kick back after a long day and drift off into happiness. It also happens to be a great album to get down with your significant other. Definetly puts you in the mood to get it on.

Free Music Review: Porno For Pyros - Good God's Urge
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is brilliant. Yes, it's that simple. Highlights include tracks 5 and 10. They're the more mellow tunes. The rest is also pure brilliance though and shows a diverse range of musical genres and performance levels throughout. I'd also go as far to say that the feel of this album is quite surreal. There's twists and turns and up and downs that will always surprise with each listen. It's like a tripped out roller-coaster ride that you'll rarely tire of.

Lastly, I reckon this album is far more musical than anything I've heard from Farrell's previous projects (e.g. compared to earlier tracks from Jane's Addiction). Thus, a person who appreciates more instrumental pieces, the usual chilling and sweet vocals from Perry, and experimental beats won't be disappointed with this album. Just forget about expecting coarse rock guitar and drums though. And yes that's a good thing. Turn it up!

Free Music Review: Wonderful, Dreamy Psychedelia
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is one of the most unique I have ever listened to. With its dreamy, reverb drenched atmosphere and trippy, psychedelic arrangements, this album truly is a cool experience. Starting off with the simple but wonderful opening riff of Porpoise Head, it travels everywhere from ballads (Kimberley Austin), to psychedelia (Thick of it All), to raunchy punk (Dogs Rule the Night), to the dreamy and lazy (Bali Eyes), that makes you feel like you're on a tropical island. Other highlights include Tahitian Moon, Good God's Urge, and Wishing Well, but overall, every song is good. The album is perfect to listen to on a warm, hazy afternoon when you are feeling lazy and sleepy. The production is excellent, and the songs don't take long to absorb. The album is extremely listenable to most people. Anyways, I strongly recommend buying this album, it is sure to be a rewarding purchase.

Free Music Review: I'm not inside......
Hit: 5 Stars

Maybe people just don't get it. This album is what millions of years of evolution and millions of years of creating music brings. Like the difference between love and lust, hate and murderous, death and genocide,a gun and a tank. This isn't for everyone. Songs like "Bali eyes","100 ways","Thick of it all",and "Wishing well" are soft but sad and must be played to feel the full effect. While more alternative songs like "Porpoise Head","Tahitian Moon",and "Good Gods://Urge" are about the only songs more casual listeners may be able to rock out to. By the way the song "Good Gods://Urge" is probably one of the greatest songs to ever be made. It's a song for people who have lost someone could understand. First the sadness then the anger. It's a beautiful album. Too bad not everyone can enjoy it.

Free Music Review: ... do big oak trees grow
Hit: 5 Stars

Isn't it usual for a band to hit the ground running with their debut album, only to stumble on their second? Then again, when did Perry Farrell ever play by the rules? After the promising but flawed debut, Porno For Pyros got everything right on the follow-up. A more beautifully crafted album you'd be hard pressed to find. There's no point in highlighting specific tracks - every one is a classic. A previous reviewer described this as a trip in a CD case, and that's as good a rap as any. Yet the band can still rock out on the title track and Dogs Rule The Night. It doesn't matter what superlatives you throw at this, they're all inadequate. A masterpiece, pure and simple.
