Free Music Review: PM5K: Back, and Better Than Ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

Powerman 5000 are back, after an entirely too long abscense and a pulled-back album I'm sure you all know about. "Transform" is almost a whole new sound for PM5K, with lighter music, more songs that just rock, and better lyrics. You have to admit, that space theme was a little corny. And PM5K must have realized this. They have changed their theme, so they're not all about that anymore, but if you're worried they changed themselves into just another unoriginal self-loathing band, then DON'T worry.

With this new album, 2 members have left; their bassist and drummer, who are now replaced by Siggy Sjursen (and I happen to have his bass pick from their show at Jillian's in Louisville, KY) and Adrian Ost. They are both better than those before them. Siggy definetly has a better prescence in the band, and has way better bass skills, and I'll be honest here: there's almost no way you could be worse than PM5K's old drummer, so Adrian can't bring in anything bad, and he doesn't.

1. Assess The Mess-0/0-Just a 30 or 40 second spoken word track.
2. Theme To A Fake Revolution-5/5-A solid rocker, with many starts and stops, which opens with the words, "I'm not a spaceman, but on the other hand"... I guess you know what I meant by how they knew the space thing was tired...
3. Free-5/5-The first single, and you've probably heard it. Great riff, great bass, and great singing.
4. Action-4/5-The album's proposed second single. Not as good as the two tracks before it, but it's still good. It's also the music in the trailer for "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life".
5. That's Entertainment-3 & a half/5-Probably the worst track on the album, but I still always listen to it. The beats boring, and the music is very simple, and the way Spider says "what have we god" and "yeah, yeah" gets annoying. And it's still 3 & a half.
6. A Is For Apathy-4/5-A good track, lots of keyboards and solid lyrics. The album actually starts to get old here, but the next track changes that...
7. Transform-5/5-A great track with solid riffs, music, and lyrics. One of the best. Very hard.
8. Top Of The World-5/5-Just like the last track. Not one of the best, though, but it still rocks.
9. Song About Nuthin'-5/5-A slow track, which doesn't try to move you or make you think about anything, it does what it sets out to do...nuthin'. Another one of the best.
10. Stereotype-5/5-A lighter, almost pop-rock track with catchy lyrics and guitar.
11. I Knew It-4/5-There's not much in this song that you haven't already heard in the album, but it still rocks.
12. Hey, That's Right!-5/5-A standout track, mainly because of the singing, which sounds like a robot. The bass is very downtunes and also stands out in this track. Possibly the best.
13. The Shape Of Things To Come-5/5-Even though the lyrics aren't listed in the booklet (except for one sentence out of it), this isn't just an outro, it's a real track, and is tied with #12 for best track. Dark lyrics, dark singing and an overall dark vibe. I like the darkness.

Check out PM5K's new album if you liked their last album, or even if you hated their last album still check this one out, because you might think differently. It's really good. Which goes without saying because I gave it 5 stars.
