Free Music Review: Michael Nyman's music made it worth it, too bad.

I wanted to see the movie just because I saw that Michael Nyman was scoring it. Then, a few weeks before the release I read of the Alan Silvestri replacement score. Luckily, the first batch of Cds shipped out already had Nyman's music on them. I had heard his music in "Gattaca" and loved it. The two tracks he did for "Practical Magic" are powerful, playful, brilliant. I can see why they were removed from this utterly average movie. Like his score to the new "Ravenous," it must have overpowered the film.
I got the CD for the two Nyman tracks alone, and it was worth it. I listened to the songs just once. I don't mean to criticize them, they're just not my thing.
Unfortunately, the revised Cd has two tracks of Silvestri's music. If you're a film score fan, look for the version with the Nyman tracks, they're the best film music of last year, only they never made it into a film.

Well, after reading ALL the reviews, no one really liked BlackEyedDog, though the song invokes sadness in me at Michael's death in the movie, and everyone liked "This Kiss". I say "Go buy "The Runaway Bride" soundtrack (really great, but less deep), because this soundtrack was purely for the spiritual romantic". The Joni Mitchell song, the best on the CD, besides the Goddess Stevie's work, proves as much a summary of Gillian's relationships as a masterpiece. The other songs on the CD, be it the Elvis song or lisahall's "Is this real?" were all very good, fit perfectly with the whole disc, and were commendable. I too LOVE BranVan3000, and Michelle Lewis. This is the best soundtrack I have yet to find. The mixture of light-hearted and dramatic songs is exquisite! The harsher music is powerful even though the lerics were not vulgar in the least. Many of the songs are mellow and calm. The producer of the soundtrack made the perfect combination! The artists created songs that dipict the movie perfectly without over-powering it with obscene lerics. They make their point without profanity. I think it would appeal to those of all ages. No one could possibly get tired of listening to this soundtrack. No matter what kind of music you prefer this soundtrack caters to all. There is easy-listening, pop, and country. It is remarkable how diverse this soundtrack really is. This soundtrack is the most relaxing one ever!!!Free Music Review: wonderful and eclectic.

The Practical Magic soundtrack is definitely one of my favorite soundtracks that I own, to one of my favorite movies of all-time. One of the strong points of the soundtrack is it's wonderful variety of music - from synthesizer, "dark pop" (Lisahall's "Is this real") to Elvis and everything in between, it is a perfect addition to a soundtrack library for a fan of the movie. Perhaps the two strongest tracks on the soundtrack are "If You Ever Did Believe" and "Crystal" by the wonderful Stevie Nicks, which are simply perfect for the "feel" of the movie.
This CD is in constant circulation in my stereo, and I'm sure it will be in yours as well.
I can only hope that the studio will release the score for the movie - that would make it even better!
