Free Music Notes for Pure Frosting
Free Music Review: 4 great tracks from PUSA!...and some filler.

Pure Frosting contains a few classic tracks that should not be missed and some others that didn't make it on albums for reasons that are clear.
The number one track on this album is "Man (Opposable Thumb)", it is everthing a good PUSA song should be: quirky, loud and full of energy.
Other standouts include:
-"Japan" which is poppy and fun (Hi-ya!)
-"Tiki Longe God" which is just a slowed-down version of "Tiki God" from II, but the story is all still there.
-"Teenage Girl" which sounds a lot like "Mach 5".
-"Cleveland Rocks" and "Video Killed..." are great, but they've been overplayed, so they're not as exciting to hear.
The rest of the album is pretty mediocre, although the live tracks are fun to hear the on-stage banter.
The album is worth the the 4 stand-out tracks I mentioned, but I wouldn't recommend it as an intro to the band, something like II or Love Everybody would be a better representation of their style.
Pure Frosting Poster
Pure Frosting, the Presidents' farewell/B-sides-and-outtakes collection is consistent with--in fact, as good, or better than--the band's two proper studio albums, not hard for such an enjoyably slight outfit. The Seattle pop trio's last recordings include typically, entertainingly goofy considerations of subjects like "Mobile Home," a waitress at the "Love Delicatessen" and touring "Japan." "Man (Opposable Thumb)" turns out to have more going for it than a great title, proving a clever dissection of both machismo and human nature. Live versions of three cuts from their platinum debut are redundant, but fit with the record's agreeably slapdash nature; a sophomore-effort number, "Tiki God," is included here in its bongo-driven "lounge" incarnation. And while a CD-single version of Plastic Bertrand's immortal "Ca Plane Pour Moi" isn't here, two other great covers--"Video Killed the Radio Star" (a staple of the group's live show cut for The Wedding Singer) and a torrid, totally apt rendition of Ian Hunter's "Cleveland Rocks" (The Drew Carey Show's theme)--do end up highlights. --Rickey WrightAlternative Rock Music CDs
