Its hard to describe, but Preston has created a unique approach to the acoustic guitar. There are other players who tap on the fretboard with both hands, but nobody has taken it to the extremes that Preston has. He creates incredibly complex polyrythmic grooves by tapping, sliding, and hitting the sides & soundboard of his guitar. It might sound a bit gimmicky, but it is totally compelling to listen to. He rocks.

After attending a class with Preston every day for a week, several of the other students could actually play a bit of "Tribe." At least it had started to make sense. To actually make a living creating and performing this music, though, I think you need more than a little genius--perhaps a slightly mad form of genius. Not very many have the multi-tasking brain necessary to create such an intricate solo performance.

It's more percussive than melodic--the groove is the message. If that doesn't make sense to you, it will after you've listened to this exceptional performer.
