Free Music Notes for Pride & Prejudice [Music from the Motion Picture]

Free Music Review: An Excellent Match!
Hit: 5 Stars

In short, this is my new favorite CD to listen to while painting, driving, writing and working on any thing at all. I am writing my next novel as I listen to this work. The music puts me in a good mood to be sure. I oft cannot help but recall scenes from the movie while I listen to this soundtrack and so I can relive the movie even when I am too busy to get a warm cup of something wonderful and put my feet up to watch it for a couple of hours. I adored the movie, even though it differed from my expectations: better in some ways, a little lacking in others (though it gets better and better with every viewing) and it has not replaced but only added to my other 5 hour BBC P&P movie miniseries. More Jane Austen is always good. The only thing lacking in this soundtrack are one or two missing songs that I loved from the movie. But then again, and after all, I cannot truly complain, for there is so much ear candy in this modern work of classic genius. This is truly a must have.

Free Music Review: A Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

It is hard to come across a soundtrack that completely captures the essence of a book or movie. This one, however, is an exception. The music from this soundtrack is absolutely wonderful and simply beautiful. There are a variety of songs on it, too. There are the soft piano and orchestra pieces such as "Dawn", "Liz on Top of the World", and "The Secret Life of Daydreams". There is also period music like "Meryton Townhall", "Can't Slow Down", "A Postcard to Henry Purcell", and "Another Dance". Other songs ("Stars and Butterflies", "The Living Sculptures of Pemberley", "Georgiana", "Arrival to Netherfield", "Leaving Netherfield", "Darcy's Letter", "Your Hands Are Cold", "Mrs. Darcy", and "End Credits") are equally excellent, and bring you deep into the world of Pride and Prejudice. The entire soundtrack of Pride and Prejudice can be enjoyed of the movie, the book, or those who have no affiliation with either.

Free Music Review: Best Soundtrack of the Century (so far)
Hit: 5 Stars

This soundtrack is one of the best in my collection. In fact, I've cross-indexed this to my classical section as well, and find myself listening to it at least once a week. The composition, arrangement and conducting are superb, and the pieces range from euphoric to sweet to thoughtful to just plain fun.

There are quite a few subtle nuances couched within the pieces, brought out by repeated listening. But this is not to imply that listening is work -- it's pure delight.

Every music lover will find something to love in this work. Although obviously designed as a collection of pieces to support the film, it holds together as a complete work, independent and whole.

Even my teenage daughter (eclectic by nature) thoroughly enjoys this.

Compliments to the composer, arranger, conductor and orchestra on an excellent work!

Free Music Review: Piano Enthusiasts - rejoice!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I purchased this album some time ago, following having seen the dvd of the movie. What I had really wanted was the sheet music so I could play the beautiful piano pieces as heard in the film. It took a few months for the music to be published - Dario Marianelli is the composer - but until that time I listened to the c.d., which, I believe any lover of classical music will enjoy whether they play piano or not. Mr. Marianelli has crafted a hybrid blend between the best of classical form in musicianship with a more modern aesthetic. His music is cleaner, less fussy . . . and therein lies the beauty - you can hear the melodies singing out above all else, and they are rich, lovely melodies! Grab a cup of tea and the newspaper, or head out in the early morning dew to fuss with your garden . . . with P & P playing as your soundtrack. Hugely satisfying!!!

Free Music Review: So Classical and yet So Accesible and Enjoyable
Hit: 5 Stars

This score is a remarkable achievement. While accurately giving us a mood for the period Austen's novel takes place, Dario Marianelli also makes his score accessible to all and, yes, very enjoyable to listen to. In fact, arguably the most authentic of the pieces (the dances) are the least pleasing, though they are still very good. Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet's interpretations seem thoughtful and reflective. Marianelli's writing is usually delicate ("Georgiana" (16)), but rarely--and at just the right moments--full of passion (the beginning of "Darcy's Letter" (13) and parts of "Your hands are cold" (15)). This score is a gem: from the first calm notes of "Dawn" (1) to the last concluding chords of "Mrs. Darcy" (16). Despite the highlights above, it would be a crime to just pick out the best tracks--this is really a cover-to-cover composition.
