Free Music Review: 3.5 This came out of nowhere... dope side project

I've been a huge fan of both Organized emcees since Fudge Pudge dropped. As for solid boom bap, Prince Po has been dropping more constant music and in less time. (although Pharoahe has been dealing with a lot of label politics)
When I came across this disc I honestly had no idea what it was and who was involved. If it wasn't for the record shop I frequent filing it under Prince Po and Tom C3 I'd still be clueless.
Compared to his last work "Prettyblack" it's a departure from what I would call Prince Po's signature sound. That's not a bad thing. A lot of the tracks on this project still give me memories of Organized Konfusion and I can't help but picture Po and Pharoahe going back and forth on them. There are some definite repeaters in the mix like "Now and Then," which make you feel not only the beat, but most important the lyrics and flow.
Saga of the Simian Samurai Poster
Saga of the Simian Samurai is a new collaborative consisting of producer TomC3 and lyricist Prince Po. TomC3, who produced last years acclaimed Project Polaroid featuring the legendary MC Kool Keith, teams up with former Organized Konfusion member Prince Po to create another classic, lo-fi adventure. Prince Po is at his finest, and there is never a dull moment with this musical team. Through out the album, they thoroughly explore new territory in the form of new flows and beats. A few friends drop in to provide support in the form of Hiero kingpin, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, on the track "Rockland", and legendary DITC member AG, who is featured on the track "Can't Stop Won't Stop". The album wouldn't be complete without the bay area rhyme bomber Motion Man and Project Polaroid collaborator Kool Keith, as they drop a big one on "Apocalyptic Medicine". 14 tracks deep, this album is sure to keep you on your toes as each song takes you from one journey to the next; without missing a beat.
