Free Music Review: Classic and Essential
Hit: 5 Stars

If you are an older Prince fan, I'm sure you have this album. If you are a new fan, this is one you must get. Sign 'O' The Times is arguably Prince's more complete, and essential best work he has ever recorded in his entire career. This is one of my favorite albums. As usual his music is innovative and groundbreaking, trendsetting. Prince was always ahead of the game, this album is just another reason. Lyrically this album is his best in my opinion, he's always been a great lyricist but its often been misled in some way, this album we find songs that are so poignantely written, so significant of the times and the world. The mix of funk, R&B and rock make it an eclectic mix of music. The 2 CDs are great, 16 tracks. Some of the tracks are lengthy (It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night clocking at 9 minutes) but I wouldn't change a thing about this album, it contains some of his best songs and it comes from the best part of his career, where he was making the best music. My favorite track is If I Were Your Girlfriend, it just elaborates on the relationship talk and says things you normally wouldn't hear a man say, very intimate and personal. Anyway this is a must have for your Prince collection (if you don't have it), there is no filler, just great songs all throughout.

Free Music Review: One For All Times
Hit: 5 Stars

Just about every major musical artist at one time in their career's have released a double album. Often they are bombastic, overblown and contain alot of filler. Prince had already released a double album, 1999, a mere five years before 1987's Sign O' The Times in 1987 and neither album are any of the above. Some argue that Sign O' Times is Prince's greatest achievement. The album contains the best musicianship of his career. His playing is tight and loose all at the same time. Whether he's singing about being happy and having fun in the bright "Play In The Sunshine" or is taking a sobering look at the problems facing society in the powerfully brilliant title track, Prince is on the top of his game. He can tear up the funk in "Housequake" & "U Got The Look" (a duet with Sheena Easton), sing shiny pop tunes like "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" & "Starfish & Coffee", smooth it out on sensual slow jams like "Slow Love" & "Adore", look at religion in "The Cross" or make timeless hits like "If I Was Your Girlfriend". The album is a sprawling, brilliant, well-crafted masterwork.

Free Music Review: A Towering Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

"Sign O the Times" is the fourth masterpiece from Prince, following "Dirty Mind," "1999," and "Purple Rain." This double CD has him in top form, and it cemented his status as a musical genius to be feared. Here, he serves us dishes of James Brown-inspired funk ("Housequake"), rock with a dance twist ("U Got the Look" with Sheena Easton), sap-free love songs ("Adore" and the tear-jerker "Forever in My Life"), and inspirational rock (the beautiful "The Cross"). His Royal Badness also shines in the catchy, country-flavored ditty "I Can Never Take the Place of Your Man," and he brings up one of his favorite topics, sex, in "It." Another single is the freakish "If I Was Your Girlfriend," sung by Prince under his alias "Camille." TLC would later do a faithful cover of this song, but it pales in comparison to the original. Every time I listen to this record, I get blown away. I can't think of many other artists who not only cover so much artistic ground, but they're able to play a wide range of instruments and release top notch albums at such a proflific rate. Prince's music would suffer a slow decline in quality after this release, but "Sign O the Times" still stands tall as a classic.

Free Music Review: The Last TRUE Prince Album!!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Sign O' The Times", for me, was the last of the great
Prince albums from 1978's "For You" and '79's "Prince",
to the groundbreaking "Dirty Mind" in 1980,
"Controversy" in '81, the futuristic "1999" in '82,
to the zenith of "Purple Rain" in '84,
and the interesting and eclectic
offerings of '85 and '86...
"Around The World In A Day" & "Parade"!!
(Man, those were the days!)

Sign O' The Times had it all!--The funk, experimentation,
silky slow jams and straight up spiritual and sexual exhaltation!
---Prince took everything he had learned from the
preceeding albums and condensed it into a
concentrated piece of pure late 80's
pop/funk/rock genius!
Definitely a classic offering and worth the money!

**Highlights That Still Stand The Test Of Time:

Sign O' The Times, Play In The Sunshine, Housequake,
The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker, Starfish & Coffee,
Slow Love, Forever In My Life, If I was Your Girlfreind,
Strange Relationship, I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man,
The Cross & Adore!!--All Still Move Me Like They Did in '87!!

Free Music Review: Damm this album is perfect!
Hit: 5 Stars

If I could only own 1 Prince album, this might just be the one....Why? Well, for starters, the opening track is just pure genius....'Sign o Times' is a deep introspective tune, but yet musically daring and hypnotizing....

But it doesn't stop there, there's 2 discs worth of classic material....Some of my personaly favorites include:
"the Cross" a beautiful spiritual ballad that show's Prince isn't just primarily cocerned w/ women, sex, and death...And he doesn't come across preachy at all...Just a great uplifting track...
"If I was your GF" ..Ok, this one is a bit out there, but its brilliant....Very slow and laid back...Done in a unique fashion that only Prince could pull off
"I could never take the Place of Your Man"....One of my all time fav Prince cuts...His guitar work on here is just genius...I Love it and the storyline is great too....
"Starfish and Coffee" Im not quite sure what this song is about, but it's dope...A funky little ballad....
"Adore" Slow ballad, but done in a very, very classy way...Great slow jam...

...There's plenty more too....Just go out and buy the album, you surely won't be disappointed...
