Free Music Notes for Dawn on Pyther AlbumFree Music Review: IF MARS HAD MTV . . . Hit: 2 Stars
. . . and the year was 2200ish, this is approximately what you would hear on the . . . whatever it is that will replace TVs and Radios.
I really wanted to like this album as it sounded very promising. Male and female vocals. A Sci-Fi storyline that revolves around a pyramid, a floating city and lots of dragonflies. Lots of musical instruments that range from folksy to futuristic. And the band is from Portugal, but their lead singer, Zara, is from the United Arab Emirates.
If that sounds ambitious, that's because it is. Many of the songs easily clocked in at over 5 minutes, resulting in a loss of musical vision, in my opinion. Too many of the songs sounded like the Big Bang gone wrong.
However, there were two songs where I felt they actually got it right.
The first being "Flying Thoughts", a 9:27 monster of a song. The folkish intro is very soothing and makes me think of a quaint little hut with some grass on some newly colonized planet. Zara's vocals are really good on this song.
The second is "Growing Feeling". Starts off very quietly, so don't bother turning the volume up, because it gets louder later. The piano that plays in this song is absolutely stellar. The female vocals in this song are also top notch. If Mars had MTV, this sound would easily climb, if not top, the charts. The bands website has a very awesome computer-generated music video for this song.
The booklet has the lyrics and some very nice artwork on each page.
The only other band I've heard that remotely sounds like this is Greece's DOL AMMAD. If the stars are your destination then this might be your sort of album.
