Free Music Notes for Puccini - La Boh?me / Freni, Pavarotti, Harwood, Ghiaurov, KarajanFree Music Review: La versi?n definitiva. Fuertemente recomendada.
Free Music Review: awesome Hit: 5 Starsthis is an awesome recording, very romantic and emeotional it give the cills every time i listen to it. the cast is incredible as well as the orchestra and conductor
Free Music Review: La Boheme made in Hollywood! Hit: 4 StarsCertainly one of the best Boheme recordings out there. Freni's most famous role in which she shines. Her lyrico-spinto voice is just right for this sweet role and she's heartbreaking. No wonder she owned the role for decades.
Her Rodolfo is Pavarotti and this was also one of his most famous roles. His spectacular instrument makes his Rodolfo a true charmer. The atmosphere however that Karajan creates is more Hollywood-like than Parisian. This spoils it for me. Both Freni and Pavarotti sounded more romantic under the baton of Schippers a few years earlier (Opera d'oro offers that recording).
The rest of the cast here is wonderful with Harwood and Ghiaurov outstanding. Decca engineers have done an impressive job by the way.
Serafin's Boheme with Tebaldi - Bergonzi (both heartstopping!) and Bastianini, D'Angelo, Siepi, Corena (WOW) will always be the ultimate Boheme for me but the Freni-Pavarotti combination is stunning!
Free Music Review: Simply the BEST! Hit: 5 StarsThis is without doubt the best recording of Boheme available. Pavarotti is at his peak. Freni is superb. And Karajan shows his usual mastery. You'll fall in love with this piece all over again. There is no better place to start with Pucinni and opera than this recording.
Free Music Review: A Karajan success Hit: 3 StarsOK! So everybody loves it, and with some reason. I will not bother giving details on why it is rather great, but I will tell you why I only give 3 stars: it has Pavarotti in it. Perhaps I am a little bit prejudiced since I do not like the man. Perfect singing, but shallow singing and that becomes boring with time. I must admit that considering the other beauties of this recording I do not know who else could have sung that day that would have fit well. Domingo, for all its greatness would have been too strong a leading man. Kraus too weak. Carreras? Ah! If Alagna had been born two decades earlier! I would have given 6 stars! Meanwhile, as I wait for the perfect Boheme which will come now without Pavarotti and unfortunately without Freni since both do not have anymore that juvenile bloom in their voice, I listen to this version with pleasure. After all I must admit that Pavarotti is less irritating here than in other places works.
