Free Music Notes for Puccini - La Boh?me / Freni, Pavarotti, Harwood, Ghiaurov, Karajan

Free Music Review: What about Freni?
Hit: 5 Stars

I was reading all the reviews written about this wonderful recording and very little has been said regarding Freni. To say she was born to sing Puccini is an understatement. Her voice in this recording is absolutley ravishing. To my ears it is a perfect lyric soprano voice; expressive, sweet, with a slight darkness that gives it a marvellous tone colour.

Pavarotti is just as incredible. The voice is bright, warm and expressive. Although Bjoerling sings with more tenderness in the Beecham recording, there is no lack of involvement from Pavarotti. Needless to say, when these to incredible voices blend...WOW!

Karajan is slightly overindulgent...can you blame him? Tempos are spacious allowing Freni and Pavarotti create magic. The recorded sound is excellent. The whole reading may be slightly over the top, but who cares? Turn down the lights, turn up the volume, let the milk boil over and just let the wonderful sound penetrate your soul....

Free Music Review: One of the best complete Boheme albums
Hit: 4 Stars

Okay, we all know how great this album is. Freni IS Mimi in every respect, but while Luciano makes a good Rodolfo, He cannot compare to the perfection of Caruso. I would hope with modern technology that we could hear a "O Soave Fanciulla" with Caruso and Freni... ah but that's just a dream I suppose.

Free Music Review: La Boheme: opera for beginners
Hit: 5 Stars

My mom, who hates opera, bought me this CD for Christmas. My own exposure to the genre has been fairly limited, but La Boheme is a good old standard, fairly familiar and not too scary for opera virgins! The music is great, the story is touching, and the singers are amazing.

Free Music Review: The only one to get
Hit: 5 Stars

Well...i also own the Beecham one with Bjoerling. They complement each other well. Beecham's is sweet, gentle, and lilting; Karajan's is passionate and visceral. The orchestra does get a bit "over the top," (Karajan seems to overwhelm in my opinion) but the voices hold up to it. Why anyone would listen to another tenor except Pavarotti and Bjoerling do Puccini is beyond me. Pav is in great form, with his sunny tenor sounding passionate and right on. Freni, being in her younger years, is solid. The voices meld beautifully. If you like this, check out their Madame Butterfly. It's a recording I come back to again and again, and always with a lump in my throat and a lift in my heart.

Free Music Review: Pucinni on its best
Hit: 5 Stars

I have bought this CD 2 months ago. After the first notes of "Questo mar rosso" I was touched by the beautiful melodies. Of course track 8 - 10 "Che gelida manina", "Si, Mi chiamano Mimi" and "O soave fanciulla" made me speakless! Yesterday I was in the theatre to see La Boheme. A perfect evening that brought me into tears. Opera and especially Pucinne has stolen my heart.
