International music is one of the most diverse and rich genres of music. Contemporary labels mix traditional regional sounds and native languages with upbeat modern pop which preserves cultural identities and creates and enjoyable listening experience for locals and foreigners. However, all hope is lost with Storper's Putumayo record label which can't grasp the concept of a country or region's own distinct folkways. Despite being the most popular world music brand, Putumayo fails to present each region's own musical identity outside of Africa and Latin America. This is a huge disappointment for those expecting the many sounds of Europe on one CD; Euro Lounge neglects encompassing the many tones of this culturally-diverse continent. An emphasis is placed on Turkish (arguably not even European) and the areas of Western/Southern Europe that speak the very common Romance languages. Euro Lounge even includes Thievery Corporation- an Indian-Brazilian dub group- in a CD that supposedly highlights Europe's harmony. Even the cover art doesn't look European. Putumayo can't seem to create a record without mixing in some third world brown/black nation's sounds, which is a real injustice to such a multifarious and inimitable continent.
