Free Music Notes for The Dana Owens AlbumFree Music Review: Execellent cd Hit: 5 Stars
This cd is excellent. Eventhough it isn't very commercial which means that it's not going to appeal to the majority of music buyers out there. Anyway if you're looking for some music that is well produced, and if you're a Queen Latifah fan, buy it anyway because she is so talented, and she is one of the few rapper artist that can sing. She has a real nice smooth voice. The track with her and Al green I reccommend., and of course the classic "Hello Stranger" originally recorded by Barbara Lewis in the 60's. This was and still is a beautiful song. Dana Owens aka Queen Latifah does a nice cover of this song, if you don't have this cd go out and buy it today.
Free Music Review: the queen crosses over! Hit: 5 Stars
queen latifah followed up her fantastic performance in 2002's 'chicago' with a cd of light jazz standard of many decades.
if i'mnot mistaken, she dedicated the album to her mother, but this is one for the many fans that knew she could deliver the goods with a great set of melodies and lyrics.
every track is golden but the best are her versions of 'california dreaming', 'hard times' and 'moody's mood for love'.
'trav'lin light' is the next step on latifah's journey to a throne as the newest jazz/r&b queen! now if only her next films are as rich and varied as these two cds....
one can dream, can't one?
Free Music Review: All Hail Dana! Hit: 5 Stars
OK, some of us knew who Queen Latifah was all along (I used to but records from her when she worked at the Nobody Beats The Wiz store in downtown Newark), and if you were paying attention to her rap all along then you knew that this girl can sing!
Dana does Newark proud with her smooth delivery on standards such as I Put A Spell On You, Lush Life, , as well as her take a newer standrds like Mercy, Mercy, Me and California Dreaming.
I would love to see (and hear) Dana continue to explore her exceptional voice with perhaps an album of original songs.
This collection is a great starting point.
Free Music Review: well done Hit: 5 Stars
the Queen suprises a lot of folks with this cd composed of all singing. With a jazzy, R&B feel to it. It takes you on a trip and doesnt bring you back until the last song is over with. Its very soothing, comforting and her voice is strong when needed and subtle yet passionate on other tracks. But throughout the Dana Owens album there is one thing for sure that not only can she rap. But she can also sing as well, it doesnt feel like a gimmick or something forced. Its a natural progression and i love it. I do hope that she does another rap album in the future, but for now. I'm very happy with this effort.
Free Music Review: been waiting so long Hit: 5 Stars
I have been waiting so long for this. Ever since "Living Out Loud" I have hoped she would do an album like this, simply flawless (if a little overproduced, I would love to see her in a smoky jazz club sipping a martini and grooving without the overdubs and reverb, just that gorgeous voice and smile). Rickie Lee Jones still does the definitive version of "Lush Life" because it is live and it sounds like Rickie LIVED it and is totally wasted while singing it (check out the album "Girl at Her Volcano" to see this incomparable version of a totally undrerated ARTIST), but the queen's version is still top notch.
