Free Music Notes for The Dana Owens AlbumFree Music Review: Saw the Queen live peform the songs before the release Hit: 5 Stars
While I have not heard all the songs on the CD yet, I was fortunate enough to hear Queen Latifah perform live in NYC Friday, Sept 24th, for the Today Show concert series. She sang 3 songs from this release: Baby Get Lost, California Dreamin', and Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. The band was very tight with a nice sax solo on Baby Get Lost. California Dreamin' had a nice Jose Feliciano feel to it (which she referenced), and Mercy, Mercy, Mercy- had plenty of soul. To see Queen Latifah up close perform these songs was a real treat- and she is singing these from her soul. What a beautiful woman with so many talents.
Free Music Review: A GRAMMY ~ AMA Cd for 05' Hit: 5 Stars
Latifah hits a home run with the release of this CD. She'll rejuvenate her musical career and also gain massive respect from music critics, as did Natalie Cole with the 1990 release of "Unforgettable". On this CD, Queen Latifah delivers a pleasant surprise. Her vocals have the subtle effect of Roberta Flack and are respectfully reminiscent of another era. The artistry and musical production of this Cd will perfectly blend into any atmosphere, the orchestration is flawless. I was totally blown away. I am surely going to purchase any future release from this artist. In me, she has gained a new fan!
Free Music Review: I hear a future Queen of Jazz and Pop. Hit: 5 Stars
I heard Queen Latifah sing in the movie Chicago and on the Oscars a few years ago and thought she has a pleasant voice, with more years she'll become a more seasoned vocalist, well after listening to this cd, some seasoned singers better watch out!!!!!!! Great musicians and arrangements on these songs!!! Dana doesn't try to prove anything with oversinging or those jerky runs that most of these wannabes do now with their singing(if i can call it that!) Queen Latifah delivers the goods with cd!, Queen forget rapping ever again!, i can't wait to hear your next jazz cd!!!
Free Music Review: Lush Life Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I heard Miss Owens sing and bring me to my knees
was in a movie called 'Living Out Loud'. Like Chicago, Dana
sang various tracks that showed her range. The 'Living out Loud'
soundtrack made me a believer. The 'Dana Ownes CD' shines, and
her choices are brillant. She paints with her voice. I think this
album should win her a Grammy... Dana , Queen Latifah, HRM -
with such range.. you will live a "Lush Life" after all.
Don't miss this CD.
Free Music Review: Outstanding risk: Even better execution! Hit: 5 Stars
Queen Latifah has quickly become one of my favorite actresses and singers. She's done huge movie thing, the rap thing.. I loved her sitcom.
And if you needed any more confirmation of her greatness and talent be sure to check out this cd.
I sampled this cd on iTunes and I had to have it immediately! I've never been a fan of jazz and old school r&b..but the queen hath converted. I find myself sitting back and drinking moca to this smooth and sultry performance.
Dana Owens with out a doubt deserves to be called Queen now!
