Free Music Review: "Simply Beautiful"
Hit: 5 Stars

...is not only the name of one of her tracks on this cd but, it's also describes Dana Owen's voice. I first heard this other musical side of Queen Latifa when she sang 3 songs on the soundtrack of "Living Out Loud", and ever since I've been desperately hoping that she would do more of the same. Her voice will "put a spell on you" and make you say, "mercy, mercy, mercy". So, Ms. Owens don't "get lost", please continue to help us through the "hard times" and into a "lush life".

P.S., the title of this cd should have been "Simply Beautiful"

Free Music Review: Spellbinding is right!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I just bought, get this....are you ready? You sure? Positive? The latest Queen Latifah CD called the Dana Owens Album....That's her real name......GREAT SONGS!!! REAL SONGS!!! Some good blues, some big band stuff, some covers, some MoTown R&B.... NO rap or hiphop....Boys and girls, it is great!!!!....She CAN SING and you can understand the words!! Now here's the demographic..I'm a white, middleaged, fat divorcee. Now who would have thought I'd give this CD a second thought?
You might wanna scope THIS one out!!

Free Music Review: A huge surprise
Hit: 5 Stars

I always thought Queen Latifah had more depth than we had been shown. Now she proves it with a luscious, well-balanced album of jazz standards and R & B. I probably shouldn't be surprised that her voice is so rich and full, but I was astonished that she was able to impart as much nuanced phrasing into the songs she selected. The best cut for me is "Lush Life," and often-recorded standard that usually is treated as a drunk song. Latifah (or should I say Owens?) turns it into a cry for life lived anew.

Love this album.

Free Music Review: Hail to the Queen!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a big fan of standard music and the Great American Soundbook... As usual, I was checking out the new releases section and I glanced at this chic-looking CD with, to my surprise, Queen Latifah holding an old-style microphone!
She did an amazing job in mixing the pop/R&B with renditions of classics and old standards... "Lush Life" reminded me of Natalie Cole's version with her soft, velvety voice and "The Same Love That Made Me Laugh" is to die for!

All in all, a sexy smooth album that should be part of any music-lover's collection!

Free Music Review: superbe
Hit: 5 Stars

Hip hop Queen Latifah surprises us with an excellent jazz album which will enable her to enter the realm of the international jazz community. Latifah is presenting 12 well-known tunes (pop oldies such as "mercy mery mercy" and "califonia dreamin" as well as traditional jazz standards - outstanding: strayhorn's "lush life"!!!), she interprets them with a wonderful warm voice, accompanied by exquisite big band arrangements. Hopefully this is the beginning of a new artful career ... Highly recommended ... No: More - it's a MUST!
