Free Music Notes for Queen of the DamnedFree Music Review: You can't find a soundtrack better than this Hit: 5 Stars
I don't often consider anything 5 star, but this album deserves every last one of them. I am not a fan of Korn or Static X, and frankly I can't stand Jon Davis or Wayne Static. I think they are a waste of flesh, however they really do show how talented they are with this album. I think if Jon Davis had done more on this album it would have been a flop. Good thing he didn't. This is a wonderful album. Each artist featured is talented beyond belief. Each song is in itself amazing, even the lesser songs. I've never seen the movie, and I haven't heard good things about it so I'm certain I won't be seeing the movie. It's amazing. I've heard such bad things about the movie, yet out of it comes this amazingly dark and powerful soundtrack that I will never get tired of. I baught this album based on the talent. Honestly, if you like even one of these bands you'll most likely love this album. -Not meant for me - I can't stand Wayne Static as I said, but this song is really good. Very dark and powerful. -Foresaken - David Draiman is a severly talented man. You take out all the monkey sounds he makes on his Disturbed albums and you get one hell of a voice. Just what you get in this song. I'm a big fan of his at any rate, but this song is awe inspiring. Again a very very dark and powerful song. -System - Chester Bennington! Wow. I don't dislike Linkin Park in the least, but this by far surpasses any song of theirs I've heard. This is one of the best songs on the album. Hauntingly beautiful. Of course it goes with the rest of the album, dark and powerful. -Change - This is the Deftones' best song, in my opinion. This album would not be complete without this masterpiece. It fits perfectly. Amazing is the only word to describe it. -Redeemer - This is one of my least favorite songs. It's not a bad song at all, and Manson does a really good job with it. There's just something about it that doesn't compare with the stature of the other songs. -Dead Cell - One of Papa Roach's best songs. It doesn't quite fit with the rest of the album, but who cares. It's a great song no matter if it follows the other songs or not. -Penetrate - Godhead! I can't say that I'm a big fan of theirs either. I can at least stand listening to them. This song fits perfectly with the rest of the album. Very dark. Very powerful. And it doesn't hurt that Manson's thrown in there too. It ties up with the album even better. -Slept so long - Jay Gordon is so very very talented. His voice alone embodies the feel they were going for with this album. This is the best song. Words really can't describe how amazing it really is. -Down with the sickness - I love this song. I can't say that it really belongs on an album like this, but really who cares with a song like this. -Cold - Again with the Static X. It pains me to say that I dislike a band that made a song like this. This is an amazing song. -Headstrong - Other than this song I've never heard of Earshot. It's a good song really, but it's not the most note worthy one on the album. -Body Crumbles - This is the only song I've ever heard from Dry Cell(I think). I don't like it. It sounds like a song from a video game I played years ago. Almost like a rip off Linkin Park at times. -Excess - I love this song! I have no idea who Tricky is, but this is a really cool song. I love the lyrics. Beautiful! -Before I'm dead - Ok, if you haven't heard The Kidney Thieves then you really need to. They're amazing! Free's voice is utterly amazing. This song is so catchy, you'll probably find yourself walking around singing it. Ah this song is so powerful. I mean there aren't too many wonderful things to say about it.
Free Music Review: This may be the best soundtrack ever Hit: 5 Stars
...The album starts off with an incredible single (Not meant for me) featuring Wayne Static. As a Static X fan, I was suprised at how melodic Wayne can be. His usual fare is much more caustic (in a good way ;) ). This single proves to me that he is not just a great metal artist, but an all-around talent. The next song (Forsaken) features David Draiman from Disturbed. This track is awesome. It is a very epic, layered song that evokes loss. The only downside to the track is that it's too short. Also, it reminds me of something but I havent been able to pin it down yet so I get a very elusive tantilization every time I hear it (of course, your mileage may vary). Next is System featuring Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. More of a slowed down anthem, it moves along at a solid groove, sucking the listener in to a building crescendo, then fades off. Not as good as the first 2, but still very strong. Up next is Change by the Deftones. This is Adrenaline-style Deftones and has good timing, but isnt quite as solid as the preceeding songs. This one would have done better if placed later in the disc instead of sandwiched in between more themic tracks IMO. Up next is Redeemer featuring Marilyn Manson. This song kicks ... I like some Manson, hate other Manson. This falls into the 1st category. It has a great chorus, a catchy backbeat and is all-around head-nodding foot-tapping goodness. Next is Papa Roach's Dead Cell which is a good nu-metal track, but not as solid as the new original tracks on this CD. Godhead's Penetrate follows. It is an interesting song, with a good chorus. Next is Slept so Long featuring Jay Gordon of Orgy. I havent heard any of Orgy's music before and Ive never heard of Jay Gordon, but this track is pretty good. Will have to seek out some Orgy and give it a listen. Disturbed's Down with the Sickness is next up. This is just a great song period. While Im not crazy about most nu-metal bands, a few like Disturbed kick...; dont be put off the entire genre just because Limp Biskit puts your teeth on edge. Static-X's Cold from Machine steps up next. Static-X is my favorite 'new' band; simply put they go to 11. I picked up Machine several months ago and keep meaning to pick up Wisconsin Death Trip. Cold is actually one of the weaker songs on Machine, which isnt to say it isnt good, but rather an indication of how many other better songs are on Machine. Regardless, Cold fits in here nicely. Earshot's Headstrong follows. This song is pretty good. Im going to have to check out Earshot now. Next up is Body Crumbles by Dry Cell. This song gets a lot of radio play locally, but its still listenable; it hasnt worn to thin yet. Tricky playing Excess starts off kind of odd for a predominantly metal/nu-metal/gothic album but kind of grows on you if you give it half a chance. Not one of my favorite tracks, but passable. Finally, the Kidney Theives with Before Im Dead. Ive never heard of Kidney Theives, but this song does very well. Another band I need to find out more about. All together, this CD is iron-clad. It sticks together well, and the tracks flow together, especially the first 3 or 4. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes any of the bands featured on the album. The 5 new songs are great, and even if you already own most of the other tracks on various CDs its still a great compilation, saving you some time with the old CD burner. My only complaint, such as it is, is that now I feel compelled to seek out 2 or 3 new bands and sample thier offerings to see if I should buy them. Why is this bad? It isnt really, but my 'Get' list is already long enough, and I can only afford so many CDs. ;) Two thumbs up; this album is a winner.
Free Music Review: Great blend of songs.... Hit: 5 Stars
WOW. The day the movie opened, I went and saw it. The day after, I had to go pick up the soundtrack. I love all the music in the movie, and this soundtrack is one of the best ever done. Not only did the movie kick ass, so does every song on this album. If you are a hard rock fan, this is a must have. John D did a GREAT job putting this together. Here's a breakdown:Not Meant For Me, Wayne Static: The bass part on this song is sweet. It's very gothicy and reminds me of the movie so much whenever I hear it. Great vocals. 4/5 Forsaken, David Drainman: This is a pretty OK song, once again, perfect for the soundtrack. Not the greatest, but then again I can't stand his voice. The chorus is tight though. 3/5 System, Chester Bennington: Nice, slow rock song. I remember this song well from the movie. Got a nice chorus as well. A stand out track on the album. 4/5 Change, Deftones: The Deftones are my favorite band in the world, but this isn't my favorite song by them. Not really fitting for the soundtrack, but still a great pick cuz it's the 'tones. 4/5 Redeemer, Marilyn Manson: The beginning is weird, but once it gets into the song the song is pretty awesome. Very vampiric, well, it's coming from Marilyn Manson, what would you expect?! hehe. 3.5/5 Dead Cell, Papa Roach: Well, like the Deftones's song, its not really fitting for the soundtrack, though I like the song. 3/5 Penetrate, Godhead: This the worst song on the album. I hate it! AHHH! his voice is so bad. 1/5 Slept So Long, Jay Gordon: Wow, I love this song, it reminds me of when Akasha's in the Vampire bar, I can just see her in it. This is probably the best track on the album. 5/5. love it. Down With Sickness, Disturbed: I don't really like disturbed, this song is OK tho. Kinda fitting for the movie but not really. It's ok. 3.5/5 Cold, Static X: Love this song, another one of the stand out tracks. Wayne's awesome voice, those awesome guitar riffs, beautiful. 4.5/5 Headstrong, Earshot: This is an average song, he's got a cool voice and some cool quitar parts but it's not one of my fav's. 3/5 Body Crumbels, Dry Cell: Again, this guy has a nice voice too, and has a cool bass intro. But I don't really like it, not fitting for the movie. 2.5/5 Excess, Tricky: This song has been featured in many soundtracks, and it adds a little spark to this one. Unlike a lot of the other tracks, this isn't really hardcore heavy riffs. I like it. 4/5 Before I'm Dead, Kidney Theives: Uggghh, this track is horrible. Barely better then the Godhead song. The only good part of this song is the guitar and drums in the chorus. The rest sux. Blah! 1.5/5 I would highly recomend getting this, there's just 2 bad songs on the whole thing, the rest are damn good.
Free Music Review: Here is some good stuff, buddy Hit: 5 Stars
What we have here is an excellent collection of hard rock, metal, and industrial. I never saw the movie, but, since it's about a vampire rock star who actually sings five of the songs appearing on the CD, you have to figure that it's at least a more honest soundtrack than most, and doesn't just throw hits together to sell copies.
Anyway, the five aforementioned songs, created for the purpose of being Lestat's music, are excellent. I'm not the world's biggest Korn fan, but if Jonathan Davis and Richard Gibbs formed a permanent band together, I would not hesitate to buy their CD. The songs have a creepy melody with a hard edge, and when I heard that Gibbs was the keyboardist for Oingo Boingo, it really seemed to make a lot of sense. I think you can hear the different influences both men brought to the project, resulting in something that sounds a little like Korn and a little like Oingo Boingo but with a definite life of its own. The choice to have five different singers perform the songs in lieu of Davis, who couldn't do it himself due to contractual obligations or some such thing, was inspired. All bring their own distinct flavor to the album, but Manson does the best job of taking "Redeemer" and making it his own; by the time he's through with it, you're convinced it was his creation all along.
The remaining tracks are also very good, my favorite among them being Deftones' stellar "Change." I do agree with those who feel the Papa Roach song is out of place (though I do not actively dislike it), and I could have done without "Down with the Sickness" on another CD; not that it isn't a great song, but I wish that if they had to have a Disturbed selection, they should have taken something a bit more obscure, rather than something everybody heard on the radio a couple dozen times. Everything else is fresh to my ears, though, and, more importantly, high in quality.
My other minor complaint is that I don't understand why they didn't just put all the songs written for the movie in the first five tracks, rather than starting with three and then interspersing the other two at random points afterwards. For the sake of convenience, they should have put them all together. I suppose that's not too big a problem if you have a remote to skip around with, but I just can't comprehend the logic of this order.
Ah, well. The most important thing, obviously, is the music, and in that respect the Queen of the Damned soundtrack delivers to levels above adequacy, above competence, and goes directly to greatness, and perhaps even beyond. Give it a look-see, if it should please you.
Free Music Review: Brilliant! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is totally impressive. I love the film and the music in it absolutely captivated me, so I got it.
1. 'Not Meant For Me' - this is one of the songs that Lestat performs at his concert, the second one. It is really powerful and the vocals are impressive. 4/5
2. 'Forsaken' - this is really really good. I love the music in it, and the lyrics are very well written. 5/5
3. 'System' - it's nice to hear Chester Bennington away from Linkin Park and the rapping. He carries this off really well and is played during the club scene where Akasha attacks. 5/5
4. 'Change (in the house of flies)' - one of the best songs on the album. It gives me goosebumps, and the vocalist has a beautiful sound. Interesting lyrics though.. 5/5
5. 'Redeemer' - Manson is the man! He brings a so-so song to life with brilliant vocals and a modern sound. 4/5
6. 'Dead Cell' - this is during the scene where Jesse is trying to get a chance to see Lestat. It's pretty good for Papa Roach, but not the best song on the soundtrack. 4/5
7. 'Penetrate' - I don't really like the verses of this song, but the chorus is really catchy. 3/5
8. 'Slept So Long' - this is the first song that Lestat sings in the concert scene. It's definitely the better of the two. 5/5
9. 'Down With The Sickness' - Disturbed at their finest, this song is a masterpiece, and when it plays at my favourite club The Cathouse, everyone goes mental. 5/5
10. 'Cold' - I'd never heard Static-X before, but this song is one of my favourites. 5/5
11. 'Body Crumbles' - this song is really cool. 5/5
12. 'Excess' - most people don't like this, but I think it's really good, with an interesting sound. Is Alanis Morrisette doing backing vocals, or am I just hearing things? 5/5
13. 'Before I'm Dead' - this song introduced me to a brilliant band. This is an AMAZING song, one of the main reasons I got the album in the first place! It sends shivers down my spine it's so good. 5/5
BUY THIS ALBUM DAMMIT! :P
