Free Music Notes for InnuendoFree Music Review: Queen's Final Epic Hit: 5 Stars
The Queen album Innuendo brought to a close the career of in my opinion one of the most underrated british rock bands in rock history. They went out in grand fashion too, despite harsh critisism from alot of the press and declining popularity in the United States. This album in itself although never mentioned was a tribute to Freddie Mercury in so many ways. As late as 1987 he knew he had a death sentence with the A.I.D.S virus and yet he still carried on and it shows on both The Miracle and Innuendo. While The Miracle told the world no one was going to stop his party and he had to breakthru, Innuendo put all the skeptics to rest and picked up the pace as they went back to the basics of hard rocking tracks and power ballads. Queen sounds as good here on Innuendo as they ever had in the 70's and the songwriting is very crisp. Most of all Freddie was connected to his fans , and the tracks presented here were all a way of him showing his gratitude to them. Lyrically the tracks can sway your emotions every which way and you can instantly feel the tension with every verse. This album is definatly a must buy in my book. I discovered Queen when I was 11 when I heard The Show must go on and was instantly rivited. I am 25 now and I still havent been able to put this album down. So go buy this and see what I mean for yourself.
Free Music Review: My favorite Queen album Hit: 5 Stars
It's too bad that this was the last album made while Freddie was still alive because the material on this was their strongest in years. Throughout the 80's they produced some catchy and likeable pop/rock singles but their albums as a whole were weak, especially when compared to their classic 70's albums. This album is a masterpiece from beginning to end, with one strong exception (sorry Freddie but I just can't get into a song about a cat). The only other thing that would have made the album better was if the "Queen Rocks" version of "I Can't Live With You" was on here instead but the version here is okay. "Innuendo", "Slightly Mad", "Days Of Our Lives", and "Show Must Go On" are the standout tracks and are among the best songs the band has ever created. This album HAS to rank up there among the best they've done, if not THE best.
Here are my song by song ratings on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best:
1. Innuendo 5/5
2. I'm Going Slightly Mad 5/5
3. Headlong 4/5
4. I Can't Live With You 3/5
5. Don't Try So Hard 4/5
6. Ride The Wild Wind 4/5
7. All God's People 4/5
8. These Are The Days Of Our Lives 5/5
9. Delilah 1/5
10. The Hitman 4/5
11. Bijou 4/5
12. The Show Must Go On 5/5
Free Music Review: A Masterful Farewell Hit: 5 Stars
I purchased this album the day it was released, as I always did when new Queen music was available. It begins with the magnificent "Innuendo" one of Queen's best. "I'm Going Slightly Mad" is a funny, but in retrospect sad song about Freddie's health at the time. "Headlong" is a straight up rocker as only Queen can do it. "I Can't Live With You" is an amusing song that will grow on you. "Don't Try So Hard" is a chilling song that seems to talk to you individually. "Ride The Wild Wind" is like going on a musical motorcycle ride. "All God's People" is a gorgeous song that makes you feel closer to God. "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" is a touching song that makes you appreciate the simple things while you can. ""Delilah" really gets to me because I can imagine how Freddie felt when he wrote it. "The Hitman" is one more chance for Brian to prove he is the king of the guitar. "Bijou" is one of those musical moments that are hard to put into words. It is just beautiful to listen to. "The Show Must Go On" is the best song in rock and roll history. I still can't hardly listen to it without getting teary eyed. A farewell song that is majestic and heart wrenching. If you need proof of Queen and Freddie Mercury's genius this album will do.
Free Music Review: Excellence Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of Queen's greatest albums. It is poignant, beautiful, and addictive. The album starts with "Innuendo", an essay of human behavior which features biting cynicism not heard since "Great King Rat". Next is "I'm Going Slightly Mad" and it is classic Mercurial madness. "Headlong" abounds with excellent rhythm and rocking quality. "I Can't Live With You" is a wonderful pop-rock hybrid with good group vocals. "Don't Try So Hard" is beautiful, one of my favorite songs conceived by John Deacon. It displays some of Freddie's best vocals. "Ride the Wild Wind" is completely hypnotic. Loud, blaring, and simply great. "All God's People" is the only inferior song on the album. It gives me a headache. Roger Taylor displays his most beautiful song, "These Are The Days of Our Lives". Undeniably a tear-jerking song. "Delilah" makes me smile every time I listen. "The Hitman" shows Brian May's ability to make thunderous rock songs. It is followed by "Bijou", a spectacular love song with a brief vocal from Freddie. It shows more guitar wizardry from Brian. "The Show Must Go On" is the best song on the album. Brian pens this haunting masterpiece, and it features Queen's ne plus ultra of emotion. Buy this album. You will be glad you did.
Free Music Review: The voice of a fighting spirit Hit: 5 Stars
Hearing this record, knowing today what condition Freddie was in at the time, is a soul stirring experience to say the least. Of course, no one but Freddie himself really knew what was happening at the time with his illness. The band knew he was weak, but they did not know the whole truth of his condition. Still, there was an unspoken sense of urgency among the band during the making of this record. The emotions expressed with his voice just drip with poignancy and immediacy. It is astonishing to me how someone who was so weak and fragile at the time could conjure up such power, evoke such unearthly sounds from his frail body. Evidently, the band had to keep stopping after one or two vocal takes by Freddie, because he would get very weak and need to take breaks. But he kept working throughout the sessions. Freddie was truly fighting for his life, and he gives this performance every last ounce of energy that he could produce. This album proves once and for all, if there was ever any doubt, that the strength of the fighting human spirit is more powerful than the physical body! Freddie, thank you for proving this to the world. You have triumphed. This is the voice that shook the world. Heroic. Stunning.
