Free Music Notes for Made in HeavenFree Music Review: Melancholy, poignant, and... Hit: 5 Stars
...quite frankly, so depressing at times that you'll be wondering why you love it so much. Because this is one of Queen's best albums, probably my favourite one. Every single song is stunning - the vocals (mostly Freddie, singing with such incredible power and emotion that it's hard to believe the majority of these songs were recorded just months before his death) are amazing, the music is fabulous. Two songs Freddie recorded on his solo album, Mr Bad Guy, appear on this CD (Made In Heaven, I Was Born To Love You), and with added background material from Roger, Brian and John, they really do improve. Heaven For Everyone, which was originally a song by The Cross with Freddie on vocals, is reworked into a Queen song, and is one of their best. Too Much Love Will Kill You was released as a solo single for Brian in the early '90s, but the Queen version is pretty damn good too.The rest of the album consists of rock ballads at their best. The emotional Mother Love, the gospel-esque Let Me Live, the upbeat My Life Has Been Saved, the achingly beautiful A Winter's Tale, the powerful It's A Beautiful Day... all are exceptional tracks. You Don't Fool Me is a much-looked-down-upon dance track, but one I happen to enjoy. And really, it gets less melancholy the fiftieth time you hear it...
Free Music Review: Queen Is King Hit: 5 Stars
I was very fortunate to have seen Queen live on two different occasions. As if by gift from the gods themselves, they were the opening act for the then new Charleston Coliseum (WV) on the tour for "The Game" album in 1980. I saw them again in Cincinnati for the "Hot Space" tour. They were the best concert I had ever seen, and I had seen them all. Freddie Mercury is a legend and this album is a great, and sometimes melancholy final release from this genius with which we once shared the planet. When it was first released I was afraid of something that might taint the perfectionistic ideals that were so much a part of Queen. In reality it only heightens them. The title track is a beautiful instant classic that is awe-inspiring. "Let Me Live" is a very touching and powerful song with Freddie's vocals as impressive as ever. A personal favorite of mine on this album is "My Life Has Been Saved", classic pop with a positive message of Freddie's peace with god before his death. "Mother Love" is a magically brooding song that gets you in the heart. I can only dream about the creation that was still possible from Freddie Mercury. I think that he and the rest of Queen will be remembered as the greatest musicians of all time.
Free Music Review: Excellent closing of the Queen story. Hit: 5 Stars
This album is truly amazing! I don't know why all the so called "experts" gave this such a low rating because there are some amazing tracks on the album. Unlike alternative rock albums, it is certainly not a depressing album. It's more uplifting than a jumbo jet! OK, so they covered two of Freddie Mercury's old songs but they have made them sound ten times better with Queen and David Richard's immaculate production. It's A Beautiful Day is split into two parts at the beginning and end of the album, changing it's course from a great piano ballad into full-blown rock 'n' roll blasted with samples from Queen's past hits. Let Me Live is a joyous, gospel-choir-fired pop song; brilliant. There is also the amazing ballads of Mother Love, Too Much Love Will Kill You and the single Heaven For Everyone. You Don't Fool Me is a great funked-up rock song which shows Queen in a different light. All the tracks on this album are at minumum great but the best has been saved to last - A Winter's Tale is beautiful ballad written about Freddie's favourite place - Montreux in Switzerland (I know it's amazing, I've been there!) It's a Christmas song which could be heard at ANY time of the year.
Free Music Review: A Complete Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
Although this album is quite noticably diferent from most other Queen albums (only perhaps baring Innuendo), it is still not to be missed. It's quite a piece of work, and is by far one of the most emotional albums the group ever released. "Mother Love," "Heaven For Everyone" and "Made in Heaven" are without a doubt tied for my three favorite songs on this album. "Mother Love" moves me to tears every time, especially the line 'I long for peace before I die...' "Heaven For Everyone" is a glimpse of a world where everyone has someone to comfort them in times of hardship. "Made in Heaven" is a moving song that so perfectly reflects Freddie's place on this earth that it's frightening, even after he has been removed from it leaving a gaping hole, never to be filled. The song "Born to Love You" breaks the stride of the album a bit, but it is merely a falter that is quickly regained. Besides, Queen albums have always been a mix of styles. All in all, this is a wonderful sendoff for a wonderful man.
Free Music Review: Not quite as good as Innuendo, but still a great album Hit: 5 Stars
"Innuendo" was the last album released by Queen before Freddie Mercury died, and it was a fitting final album for him. "Made In Heaven" was released in 1995, 4 years after Freddie's death. Of the 11 songs on the album, 5 were previously released in other forms: "Made In Heaven" and "I Was Born To Love You" were originally on Freddie's "Mr. Bad Guy" album, and are included here with those same vocal tracks, but with Queen's instrumentation; "My Life Has Been Saved" was a B-side to "Scandal" from "The Miracle", but is slightly different here; "Heaven For Everyone" was originally recorded by Roger Taylor's band "The Cross"; and "Too Much Love Can Kill You" was previously released on Brian May's "Back To The Light" album (with Brian on vocals). But even though not all of the material here is new, all of the material is very good, and it's a great album. Not quite as good of an ending as "Innuendo", but a very fine piece of work nonetheless.
