Free Music Notes for Queen: Greatest Hits I & II

Free Music Review: The definitive Queen introduction.
Hit: 5 Stars

Hollywood Records goofed big-time when they bought Queen's back-catalogue. Instead of simply staying true to form and releasing this compilation (the original BRITISH hits collections) straight away, they chose to do their own thing and release Classic Queen and their own 'Greatest Hits', both of which are poorly sequenced and feature an inferior selection of tracks.

As for this compilation? If you are just itching to dip your feet in the world of Queen, this is definitley the first selection you should buy. It features hits from every single album they've put out save their first (Keep yourself Alive is missing, but it's a minor flaw). Disc one contains tracks that most people should recognize right away, from their most famous (Bohemian Rhapsody) to their biggest chart hits (Crazy Lil Thing Called Love, Another One Bites the Dust) to their early hits (Killer Queen, Seven Seas of Rhye). This is the disc most people will turn to first and more often, but there's so much more..

Disc 2 is the real treasure here. The only song most people in the US will know is 'Under Pressure' and possibly 'Radio Ga-Ga'. But disc 2 captures Queen at their greatest, in my opinion. Their early days were fun, yes, but their later days found Queen simply getting better and better, most notably Brain May, his guitar work is light-years ahead of his early material. Songs like 'I want it All' and 'The Invisible Man' demonstrate just what a fantastic axeman this guy was (as opposed to the effects-wizard of his early years). 'Innuendo' shows that Queen still feels that 'Bohemian Rhapsody' vibe. In short, for people who think Queen vanished after their album 'The Game' (read: people in America) disc 2 is a real eye-opener.

Greatest Hits I and II is bar none, the best introduction to one of the greatest bands in history. Don't bother with the other Hollywood Records slop (Classic Queen, GH, Rocks, etc) unless you just have to have everything. An added bonus are some fantastic liner notes.

Free Music Review: QUEEN HAS ROCKED US!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

With out a doupt in my mind, this is one of my favorite bands of all time!! There have been several bands that I have listend to and liked and then got sick of them after a while, but Queen is NOT one of them! They have maid music for almost every kind of taste ,because they have done almost every thing from classical rock to orchestra rock to hard rock! Almost everyone who hears a few Queen songs are moved by its Awsome beat and harmony! I have introduced Queen to all of my freinds, ( even Korn & Metalica fans such as my self) and ALL of them ended up becoming fans! Freddy Murcery is a awsome and VERY uniqe vocalist! And every one of these guys are great musicians! Brian May is a outstanding gutar player with a style that hasn't been adopted by any other gutar player, that I know of! If you lission closley to his sound, it is VERY HARD to imatate! Roger Taylor and John Deacon are also very good! Queen has left a powerfull legacy that will never be forgotten! I must admit, I was pretty disterbed for a while that I got the impression that Queen is a gay band, but who cares??! That dosent bother me anymore! They have rocked us! and without a doupt in my mind if old Freddy didint die, they would still be making music today! Personaly my favorites are Another One Bites The Dust,, I Want To Break Free, Bicycle Race and I Want It All. Tch! It's stupid of me to list all my favorites because I LOVE THEM ALL! This Gratist Hitz set is very good for those wo want a overall sound of the band. Each song is taken out of a differnt album from the first to thelast! However, this Gratist hitz set still misses alot of thier awsome songs, but hey, It's hard to pick out the best ones! I am a heavy metal fan, even though Queen dosn't do any heavy metal music,a few come close and I still love thier music! I enjoy it and I'm sure you will to! ENJOY!

Free Music Review: Good look at Queen's development over the years
Hit: 5 Stars

This lengthy two-volume collection does a good job of taking the listener on a tour of Queen's musical chronology, as well as showcasing both the pros and cons present in the music of Great Britain's second most famous rock band of all time, trailing only the Beatles in chart-dominating greatness.

The first volume came out decades before the second one did, and served as a standalone Greatest Hits album until the mid-1990s, when the second collection of hits was compiled. The progression of Queen's style is very evident, especially when you pop out the first CD and put in the second. Personally, I like almost all of the first CD, but can't get into the second one past the first few tracks. The second volume contains much of the later hits in the "glam rock" style, while the first CD (containing the hits from the '70s, mostly) has a much more classic feel.

Queen's goal always seems to be writing songs that become so classic that they surpass the world of charts and records and become legends. Often, they've succeeded ("Bohemian Rhapsody," "Somebody to Love," "We Will Rock You"). And even when the songs never seem to slip the surly bonds of earth in the way some of them do, they're always catchy and fun to listen to, especially the early classics. My personal favorites were "Killer Queen" and "A Kind of Magic." (As a Christian, I recommend caution with "Bicycle Race" and "Fat Bottomed Girls" due to unwholesome lyrics.)

Unless you're a devoted Queen fan, you're unlikely to really love both CDs, since the style changes so much over the years. However, all of the songs provide a great look at the work of what is unarguably one of the most talented musical groups ever. The collection is a tad pricey for a music album, but if you like Queen, it's worth it.

Free Music Review: They will rock you for sure
Hit: 5 Stars

"Queen Greatest Hits, Vols. 1 & 2" is a great helping of some of the best hits from this England rock band. One word of advice: though it might seem like the first disc is much superior to the second by the song list, the second disc is VERY surprisingly good.

The first disc explores "Queen" in their prime: from the late 60's to early 80's. Songs like "Another One Bites the Dust", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Bicycle Race", "Killer Queen", "We Will Rock You", and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" are classic rock favorites and placed as some of the best songs in music. The second disc is a great surprise. By looking at the song list, the only song many people will think they know is "Under Pressure", the popular mid 80's ballad Queen performed with David Bowie. However, there is SO much to enjoy on disc two. Disc two starts off about 1983 and finishes in the early 90's, before Freddie Mercury died of AIDS. "Hammer to Fall" and "Headlong" were popular FM rock staples in the 80's, "I Want to Break Free" became popular thanks to a Coca-Cola ad, and some of the other songs are worth checking out as well: "A Kind of Magic", "I Want It All", the Bohemian Rapsody like "Innuendo", the plain silly "Invisible Man" are some of the better tracks on the second disc.

In the 70's/early 80's, "Queen" eptiomized hard rock at it's most colorful. Glam, flamboyant, arty, progressive, "Queen" also is arena rock at it's best: fist-pumpin', head boppin', crunching rock. This band is one of the finest, and "Greatest Hits Vols. 1 & 2" gives a good indiction of just how great they were through time.

Free Music Review: Some of the best songs of the 70's and 80's
Hit: 5 Stars

Queen was so different from any band seen or heard before. Once they unleashed the masterpiece 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (One of my top ten favorite songs ever) it was clear they had a promising career ahead of them and this double album sums up the greatest moments of their career. Nearly every song here is amazing, this is truly one of the only good greatest hits albums that deserves to be made unlike the Nirvana or Guns N' Roses greatest hits (C'mon guys! You know those bands have only made three studio albums whereas Queen has made AT LEAST twenty). This is definately an essential fgor any Queen fan or just any rock fan in general.
Freddie Mercury (God rest his soul) could not have done a better job on these songs and I have to admit next to Robert Plant he is the greatest rock vocalist ever! Not to mention that he could play the piano and thats for damn sure! John Deacon is one of the greatest bass players of all time, the only God that I can think of thats better than him is Cliff Burton (Metallicas second and by far best bassist). Brian May is also a brilliant guitar player, I really couldn't say how awesome his melodies/solos are since I was truly blown away. The drummer is good as well, but he doesn't stand out as much as the other members.
All in all this album is a must have, there really arent any better greatest hits (except for maybe Elvis or the Beatles) and if you dont already have this then buy it now/soon or consider yourself a retard.
