Free Music Notes for Queen - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: I love this CD Hit: 5 Stars
I've listened to this CD since I was ten and I cannot get enough of it. It's a perfect compilation of lots of their work, (even though I'm still ticked about Bohemian Rhapsody not being on there, but oh well.) Personally I think the other greatest hits have too many songs, (but that's just my opionion.)
1. We Will Rock You 1/10 -I SO cannot STAND this song. I'm sorry it's probably my least favorite Queen song which is ironic since it's the most popular, (shows what I know..) WAY too sporty, jocky, sweaty, "Gr, I'm gonna beat you up-ish." If you get what I'm saying.
2. We Are the Champions 1/10 -Same as above.
3. Another One Bites the Dust 6/10 -It's listen-able but I think it's kind of boring and too synthesizer ish
4. Killer Queen 9.5/10 -Finally getting to the good songs. I ah-dore this song. It's quirky and happy, (even though I have NO idea what it's about.) You're always smiling when you're done listening to it, "Perfume came naturally from Paris, ..naturally..." :-D See I'm smiling now.
5. Somebody to Love 10/10 -A lovely ballad/upbeat song. (I dunno how something can be a slow song and a fun one at the same time, but they do it.) It's gorgeous and never gets old.
6. Fat Bottomed Girls 9/10 -I think it's hilarious and get's rid of the stereo-typical "skinny blonde witch," perfect woman. I love the beats and really enjoy the lyrics.
7. Bicycle Race 8/10 -I like this song too, just not as much. Kind of has a funny topic, (again I have NO idea what they mean by "Jaws was never my scene and I don't like Star Wars," but I don't care that I don't know what it means.) The bicycle dings are humerous and it has good harmonies.
8. You're My Best Friend 9.5/10 -Freddie's voice is just wonderful as always, as he sings about a good friend. It's very peaceful and happy, and catchy too.
9. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 9.5/10 -I've always loved how Queen was so innavative and now they're playing like Elvis, (only his voice is a million times better. I mean Freddie, not Elvis.) Great harmonies again and I believe this is the first time he played the guitar in a song.. (please correct me if I'm wrong.)
10. Now I'm Here 8.5/10 -Starts out as another stereo-typical rock song but really turns into something after a while. Just a great rock song.
11. Play the Game 8/10 -I wouldn't listen to the song for a while, (just because of the begining 10 seconds being... odd,) but one day I was washing the dishes and couldn't skip ahead, finding out that the song's pretty good. I love when he starts to talk about "my game of love has just begun.." or something along those lines because the piano is just great. (Is it just me or are they always talking about "playing the game" a lot in their songs? Probably just me.)
12. Seven Seas of Rhye 9/10 -LOVE the piano and the tamberine and the guitar, and just EVERYTHING. Very upbeat and love the ending when they sing like drunken pirates, "Yo ho ho I do like to be beside the sea siiide.)
13. Body Language ?/10 -I have NO idea how to describe this song and think that it's well... interesting.. You'll have to listen for yourself..
14. Save Me 10/10 -I LOVE this song. It's so beautiful and tragic and just totally awesome! A charming slow ballad.
15. Don't Stop Me Now 10/10 -How much do I love this song?! The pianos great, the voice is great. It's up tempo and talking about having a great time and being awesome!
16. Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy 10/10 -Totally am in love with this song too. It's such a great, romantic sounding song. ("I learned my passion in the good old fashioned school of lover boys..")
17. I Want to Break Free 10/10 -It's so great and talking about letting go and being free. Totally awesome.
So this is my review, and I highly suggest buying this CD.
Free Music Review: Full Marks Hit: 5 Stars
This is arguably one of Hollywood Records smartest moves. Every song on this album is perfect, from the feet-thumping anthem WE WILL ROCK YOU to the last track I WANT TO BREAK FREE, leading on to Classic Queen, which along with this album, shows Queen at their ultimate best. The much revered WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS is in there, mingling with the afore-mentioned WE WILL ROCK YOU, and ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, all classics and all damn good songs. "The Game", in my view Queen's best album, is well represented from the perfectly constructed PLAY THE GAME to the immaculate SAVE ME, without which the compilation wouldn't be complete, via CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE, a personal favourite especially when played live, and naturally ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST. The unclassifiable KILLER QUEEN is right up there with all the epics (BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY et al; alright, so it's not on the album, but keep your shirt on, the world won't stop turning), and SOMEBODY TO LOVE is as fantastic as it is murder to sing live. The inseparable duo of FAT-BOTTOMED GIRLS and BICYCLE RACE are brilliant if somewhat loutish in the lyrics department, and YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND, based on a terrific bassline from John Deacon, is one of my favourites from the '701s. NOW I'M HERE combines the irrevocable talents of Freddie Mercury and Brian May, as well as some pretty good drumming too. SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE is one of Queen's earliest songs, and also one of their best, thanks to the catchy piano solo at the beginning. BODY LANGUAGE, despite the constant criticism aimed at "Hot Space", its album, is a blinder of a song and if the band had to sacrifice their usual style to make it then so be it. I'm also amazed that DON1T STOP ME NOW appeared so low down in the pecking order of the American charts, as it's a great song (nuff said). GOOD OLD-FASHIONED LOVER BOY is excellent in both lyrics and music departments but the next track, and the modernest of the lot, i.e. I WANT TO BREAK FREE isn't really to my taste. It becomes quite catchy after a while though, and the video is out of this world! The CD is definitely worth buying, along with Classic Queen and, at a push, Greatest Hits III, if you1re a newcomer on the Queen scene and want to get a feel of their remarkable music.
Free Music Review: Excellent Music; Good Introduction For Beginners. Hit: 5 Stars
Queen were one of the most unique, original and talented bands to ever grace the music industry, and their command and mastery of multiple styles in the music world was really something that shouldn't have been taken lightly.
This first (of a three-part) volume of greatest hits is a perfect sampler for the newbie to Queen. It should be noted that there is a boxed set where you can get this, along with the other two volumes for a cheaper price than you would if you were to buy all three separately. But, the catch is, there are some slight differences in song selection. To be more specific, this first volume, appropriately, and for the most part, covers the first decade of Queen's music, which was, the 70s phase, while there are a few songs from the 80s thrown in (long story behind the reason for this.)
From the stadium-stomping one-two punch of "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions," to the elegant classicism-meets-raunch-rocker of "Killer Queen," to the Elvis-like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," to the funk numbers of "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Body Language," it is plain to see that Queen covered so many bases in their 20-year career...and then some. Indeed, this is a good introduction to one of the most brilliant bands in rock history. However, this compilation doesn't cover *all* of Queen's musical territory, as you'd really have to buy many of Queen's studio albums to get a more accurate picture as to what this band were about; they were more of an album-based band, than a singles band, contrary to the popular belief of the latter. These hit singles are only part of the story, and don't give you as complete an overview as many would lead you to believe. This compilation -- and any other compilation concerning Queen -- only scratches the surface as to what this multi-dimensional, creative, versatile, and overwhelmingly talented band had to offer.
Free Music Review: Long Live Freddie Mercury Hit: 5 Stars
"Greatest Hits" is a compilation of some of Queen's hit singles from 1974-1984. This album was released shortly after Freddie Mercury's unfortunate death. Such combination of tracks wonderfully commemorates his life and the band. The quality on every track proves that Mercury is one of the greatest rock lead singers in music history. His grand octave range and his strong, big voice stands out during their historic run. Every lyric was written and performed with tremendous heart and soul, forcing listeners to feel his words. His piano talents are also wonderful. Queen's combination of hard rock, artistic rock, pop, and opera remains ahead of their time. Behind their flamboyance is a group of highly talented musicians and songwriters. Regardless which genre or genres are capitalized in each individual song, they remain on top of their game. Brian May's lead guitar playing remains unique today, especially his guitar picking. John Deacon's bass and Roger Taylor's drumming are also wonderful, both stated heaviest on "Another One Bites the Dust"."Greatest Hits" also showcases how they evolved as musicians within those ten years. Whichever genre they introduced themselves to along the way remains stood out in music history. Almost every track has since become more than classic; they've rightfully become anthems. They remain frequently played on many radio stations. Every musical path they've traveled have influenced many musicians who came after them. This can be heard in such acts as Def Leppard, George Michael, and many others. Many have tried copying their style, but none have succeeded. This album is great for all Queen fans. Those wanting to hear more of their historic musical journey should also purchase "Classic Queen", which features more of their hit singles. Such combination makes a beautiful musical experience.
Free Music Review: Some of Queen's Greatest Hits Hit: 5 Stars
Queen released albums from 1973 to 1995. In that time Queen made a lot of music that was "great". Thus, as with most artists that have been around for more than 20 years, it is impossible to capture all of their hits or best music on a single CD. Recently this difficulty was recognized with a boxed set of three CDs that captured a much greater cross section of their music.I consider this collection of Queen music their popular music. Much of it was mellow or radio friendly, and thus much of it hit the top 10. Given that Queen had a very eclectic repertoire, you'll find quirky songs such as "Fat Bottomed Girls" next to the mellow love song "Somebody to Love". Queen's progressive rock and harder rock songs are only barely represented on this particular collection, though strains of their harder edge show through in songs like "Bicycle Race" and "Another One Bites the Dust". In many ways Queen was an album group. While most of their albums stop short of being true concept albums, most of their albums did have a theme. Also, their music was organized carefully to provide a presentation of the music that was greater than the sum of the individual songs. Thus, listening to a "greatest" collection does little to express the true scope of this group. I recommend this CD as one that provides a small sampling of Queen, and some of their more mellow music at that. You need to also have "Classic Queen" to additional hits such as "Bohemian Rhapsody". You may also want to consider "The Platinum Collection: Greatest Hits I, II and III", which is perhaps the most comprehensive set short of buying albums. Though this CD is lacking in its breadth, I still give it 5 stars because Queen was such a great group, and the songs here do represent a small portion of their incredible talent.
