Free Music Notes for Rocks 1Free Music Review: Great CD!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Of course Queen had some of the best hard rock songs ever made, and this cd is a great collection of them. Even though the last song isn't hard, its a ballad, it a is a great tribute to the Great Legend of the King, Freddie Mercury. He would be proud of the boys!!!!
Free Music Review: Queen Will Rock You Hit: 5 Stars
This is the perfect album for those who liked Queen's heavier side. This album skips the softer song's that Queen made. For those who want to hear more of Brian May's songs, and more guitar oriented rock music, this would be a good place to start.
Free Music Review: love it Hit: 5 Stars
I especially liked "No One But You", the tribute to Freddie and others who die too young. It's a very touching song. These guys were very gifted song writers, musicians, and singers.
Free Music Review: Good collection of Queen's heavy rock songs Hit: 4 Stars
Queen, like a lot of 1970s rock bands like Styx, Boston, and Cheap Trick had plenty of tools in their audience-pleasing arsenal. While they could pop out radio hits with the best of them, Queen also recorded some of the tastiest metallic rock ever to leave England's shores. This anthology rounds up some of the best of them, including gems like "It's Late," "I'm in Love With My Car," and "Tie Your Mother Down." Of more interest to diehard Queen fans is the post-Freddie song and the re-recording of "I Can't Live With You." Those of you who read the liner notes will also realise that Freddie Mercury (as essential as he was) wasn't Queen's only songwriter - many of these heavy wonders were created by Brian May and Roger Taylor.
My only qualm with this collection comes from some surprising omissions. "Brighton Rock," one of the best guitar workouts Brian May ever gave us, is curiously absent. So is virtually everything from Queen's first two albums. Yes, we get "Seven Seas of Rhye" and "Keep Yourself Alive." But more suitable songs like "Modern Times Rock and Roll" and "Son and Daughter" aren't here.
It's easy to criticize Queen for creating another anthology after their Greatest Hits packages, but onlike some of their British peers (the Stones, the Who), Queen have never released virtually identically collections under different names. Buy this CD if you're a more casual Queen fan who prefers their harder side and doesn't want to have more than a few Queen CDs in his collection.
Free Music Review: Great compilation with a few minor flaws Hit: 4 Stars
As this compilation clearly proves, Queen's most well known songs may have been their pop singles but this band could really ROCK. Tracks like "We Will Rock You", "Tie Your Mother Down", "I Want It All", and "Hammer To Fall" are among my personal favorites and they are all here (and in full album versions or as hybrid single/album versions like with "I Want It All"). Some other lesser known gems on this compilation include "Stone Cold Crazy", "Sheer Heart Attack", "It's Late", and the "Rocks Retake" of "I Can't Live With You" (far superior to the version on the "Innuendo" album).
I would have given this 5 stars if not for a few small nitpicks:
1) Though a touching tribute to their departed lead singer Freddie Mercury, "No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)" does not belong on this collection because it is a pop ballad. They should have saved it exclusively for "Greatest Hits III" and used it as the single to promote that release. They could (and should) have used the aforementioned "I Can't Live With You" as the single to promote this release.
2) "Seven Seas of Rhye" also does not belong here because it is more of a pop song. "Princes of The Universe" definitely should have been on this compilation instead.
3) What's with the "click" at the start of "Fat Bottomed Girls"? It may be only for a brief second but it really annoys me whenever I listen to that song on this compliation.
