Free Music Review: Queens have done it again
Hit: 5 Stars

By the end of the year, I am confident this album will be one of the top 5 hard rock releases of 2007. Maybe even top 3 if Pumpkins, V. Revolver, W.Stripes and Interpol suck. This band is very talented and continues to deliver consistent material despite changing members. Always refreshing and original. Would you want an artist to sound exactly the same every album?? I wouldn't. One of the reasons this band is so talented is their range, they can do uptempo and frenetic, mellow, and in-between stuff very well. I like the whole album, but the immediate standouts are trks #2,3,4, and 9 -"Suture up your Future." This song captures my mood perfectly this year -all the stress I've been through the past 2 months. Can't get it out of my head. All three albums deserve 5 stars. It'll be hard rating this album against Lullabies which I absolutely adore.

Free Music Review: Takes a while to get into... but worth the wait.
Hit: 5 Stars

I picked up the album as soon as it was out, and expected to immediately 'dig' the sounds on it. Well, 'Sick, sick, sick' was an indication of what to expect. That's an instantly catchy tune... the rest of the album may not necessarily be so... but thats not a bad thing. This is a very decent album. Better than 'Lullabies...'. After about 3 weeks, i'm pretty hooked on most of the tracks. In my opinion, 9 of the 12 songs are really good. Tracks 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,11,12. Great stuff, nicely mixed up in terms of sound, tempo, feel. The album should not be judged after a couple of listens... give it awhile, you'd be surprised at how good and different it sounds. Kudos to QOTSA for mixing it up. I am disappointed however that the album peaked and debuted at only No. 14 on the US billboard charts... it certainly deserved a top 10 spot.

Free Music Review: Bring on the Vulgaris
Hit: 5 Stars

If you want music that'll put hair on your chest, look no further than Queens of the Stone Age. This is their dirtiest record to day and by that I mean that the distortion is cranked even higher than normal. There is seriously not one track on this album that is remotely weak. Think of this as the equivalent of a double left hook to the body courtesy of Homme and company. So it's trendy to go kind of 80's? So EMO is the new fad? The day Queens gives a damn will be the day they put out a crap record. Until then, add yet another solid album to an already impressive lineup.

Highlight tracks include the groovy trio of "turnin' on the screw", "make it wit chu" and "suture up your future" and the head bangers "Sick, sick, sick", "Run, pig run", and "3'ws and 7's" though the entire album reeks with rock goodness.

Free Music Review: It puts the lotion in the basket!!! I love the lyrics.
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is beginning to end a sonic work of art. I don't think I would call it a concept album, but it certainly has a cohesive feel that makes listening to it end too soon. Maybe it's a hint of classic progressive rock attitude. At the conclusion of this CD...I hit play again. I have liked QOTSA albums before, but I don't remember being as addicted to anything they have done like this album. There are great guitar parts, soulful singing by Josh Homme and Mark Lannegan, searing six string solos, layered sound textures, rock solid rhythm/percussion, burning bluesy roots, quirky thoughtful lyrics and melodic growling bass. They threw everything in but the kitchen sink into this amazing sonic brew...buy it and put it on repeat!

Free Music Review: Don't be afraid
Hit: 5 Stars

C'mon, admit it. You listened to this album and you were scared. Don't be. I know, you want your nicely packaged pop music, you want to hear an ablum you've already heard before. You won't find it here. These songs will make you boogey, they'll make you dance and they'll scare your dog. I particularly like the songs "I'm a designer," and "Suture up your future." I'm sure you'll have your own favorites. This is probably Josh Homme and CO's best album sense "R." It has it's own style, it's got it's own thing going for it. I don't think that "I wanna make it with 'chu" was a necessary remake, although I can understand desire to file it under the Queen's catalog for reasons unknown to most of us. Great album, I love it.
