Free Music Notes for Take CoverFree Music Review: What do you know?? Hit: 4 Stars
I'm remarkably surprised that I like this. Cover albums RARELY hit the mark. It's usually a bad idea to generate revenue as with many a tribute/cover CD I've seen recently. This is a very interesting choice of tunes... Peter Gabriel? I would have bet cold hard cash that wasn't going to work. But it did. I can hear Gabriel saying, "Red Rain was covered by who????" I would have scratched 'for what it's worth' as Rush recently did this one but it's a new take. Given the relatively shabby releases over the last decade for Queensryche, this breaths a little fresh air into them. Good job. WARNING! There is a Rush cover CD out called "run for cover" as well. If you must cut off your own arms to keep from reaching out to grab this, I say do it!!
Free Music Review: Decent album, a sign of the times. Hit: 4 Stars
This was an album that suprised this ryche fan. Live at the Moore just came out a few months ago, and now a Covers album. Many of the old groups have been doing this, Def Leppard, Ozzy, Tesla to name a few, Why not Queensryche. Interesting song variety, favorite has to be Neon Nights, Geoff lights up this Dio/Sabbath masterpiece with his vocals, a perfect choice. Welcome to the machine, interesting, solid. A great variety of music choices, nicely done. Great album for Ryche fans, but honestly this album was made because its the current fad to get fans to part with their money...but this one is worth it. Check it out.
Free Music Review: Not Bad.... Hit: 4 Stars
Being a big fan of the Ryche, had to test this effort.Pretty much the selections I would have expected Geoff Tate to cover. One of the best voices in rock for a long time pulled it off well. With cover albums from Tesla and Poison,it only made sense.Welcome To The Machine,Almost Cut My Hair,For The Love of Money,Innuendo,Synchronicity II and Red Rain are the standouts ,with the latter two, being my faves. If you like The Ryche and the dynamic voice of Tate, check this one out.It may not be for all Ryche fans, but it was for me. A near 4 stars for me.Only wishing to see maybe 3 or more other songs. But what the hey....
Free Music Review: Queensryche - 'Take Cover' (Rhino) Hit: 4 Stars
New release I wasn't even aware of until two days ago, glad I got to have one listen to it. As much for the fact that I've never exactly been the biggest Queensryche fan that's walked the earth, I give this eleven track all cover CD a four-star rating for effort alone. As I firmly believe the band had spent some time putting this disc together. Tunes I thought made this CD worth purchasing are Pink Floyd's "Welcome To My Machine", Buffalo Springfield's "For What it's Worth", their awesome version of Black Sabbath's steller "Neon Knights" and the Police classic "Synchronicity II". A definite should-have.
Free Music Review: Great Hit: 4 Stars
This album is really enjoyable for me. Being a long QR fan it's neat to hear them cover some popular and diverse songs. The real standouts for me are Welcome to the Machine, Bullet the Blue Sky and Synchronicity. Those three songs are so well done they rival the originals, imo. As beautiful as geoff's voice is I just cannot get into his opera cover Odissea however.
