Free Music Notes for EmpireFree Music Review: Queensryche At Their Best! Hit: 5 Stars
This is not only one of the best music albums of the 1990's, it is one of the best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal albums of all time.
You hear about those special albums that come along every so often, where there's not a bad song on the album...this is one of them.
With fantastic songs like the classic "Silent Lucidity", the passionate rocking love ballads like "Hands On Heart" and "One and Only"
to the great title track, the upbeat "Best I Can", and the heartfelt, spirited, fantastic epic song "Anybody Listening?" this album rocks. The remastered edition is even better, because it contains one of Queensyryche's hardest and best songs of all time...."Last Time In Paris".
The song is fast, hard, and funny as well.
Queensryche's "Empire" will go down as one of the best hard rock/metal albums of all time, along with Led Zeppelin "4"(pretty much any Led Zeppelin album), Bon Jovi's "Slippery When Wet" and "New Jersey", AC/DC's "Back in Black",Metallica's "Black Album", Guns N Roses "Appetite For Destruction" etc.
Free Music Review: A good album, but not their best. Hit: 5 Stars
If you are just getting into Queensryche and don't already have this album it's probably a good bet for your next one to purchase. It's a great album, but it does have its weak spots. For one thing it seems a little preachy, for another it's the only album they've done that's this different. Queensryche really departs from their signature sound with several tracks on this album, some a little darker and other much, much lighter.
Silent Lucidity is usually the first song by QR that people ever hear, it's one of the few that still get radio play. Don't expect all of their music to be that way though, in fact it's the only song by QR that sounds like that.
The extra tracks on this version are worth a listen as well. I really enjoyed them as something a little different from one of my favorite bands.
Overall a great album, but if you're a metal fan go with either Rage for Order or Operation: Mindcrime first.
Free Music Review: QUEENSRYCHE LEAN COMMERCIAL Hit: 5 Stars
It is amazing what 24-bit re-mastering has done to this album. It feels incredibly fresh now just as it was back then. Great production, Prog-metal at its best, for sure. The bonus tracks are not the greatest, but the original 11 tracks has definitely come alive in an incredible way. Don't hesitate and pick this one up - yes, it IS worth it if you already own the original copy.
This album will always be a classic. It is full of great musicianship and Geoff Tate is obviously one of the great rock singers of all time. However, it has never sounded this good before. The production of this album is exceptional and Chris Degarmo was really writing some amazing material at this point in the bands career. For those who are fans of Progressive Metal this is an album that is essential for your collection.
This is their most successful release to date, even though MINDCRIME will always be considered their best.
Free Music Review: Queensryche's Best CD Ever Hit: 5 Stars
EMPIRE is Queensryche's best CD ever. Unlike OPERATION: MINDCRIME and OPERATION: LIVECRIME (the latter mostly a live performance of the former), which were depressing and grim, EMPIRE bespeaks a hope for change and a desire to do something about major issues both personal and social. The opener, "Best I Can", is about overcoming a disability, whereas the title track and "Resistance" are calls to arms to resolve the issues of crime and environmental destruction, respectively, and "Jet City Woman" and "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" are love songs as only Queensryche can do them. The band members' belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted, as well as their advocacy of increased funding for community policing, makes EMPIRE an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
Free Music Review: EMPIRE remastered Hit: 5 Stars
I actually had this one on audio cassette, when it first came out. What a stupid format that was, the tapes didn't last very long. Anyways, the remastered EMPIRE, is a definite improvement, in sound quality, along with bonus tracks. This was Queensryche's best selling record, which was ready for video airplay and FM radio airplay, from the beginning, and can still be heard on FM radio today, in parts, thanks to the singles, especially Jet City Woman. The bonus tracks, Scarborough Fair, winds up on this release of Empire, and I must say I could do with out that track, I never was a big fan of Simon and Garfunkel, although it does provide the opportunity for Geoff Tate, to show off his vocal talents. I would rather hear him do a Judas Priest cover though, at least that's metal, in the right direction.
