Since the time I first picked up this album many years ago, it has never lost its effect on me. I have since been puzzled over why people are so unhappy with this cd. When I look at the way some fans approach their material, I see a group of people who aren't really opening up to their music and accepting it for what it is. It seems as though fan expectations want to limit them to making everything sound like their 80s stuff or similar to Empire. Masterpiece or not, personally I just expect something enjoyable. I feel moved by much of the music on this one or on q2k, or tribe, because one thing that these albums have in common with their previous stuff is the powerful songwriting. They are still able to inspire with their meaningful lyrics. They are never lacking here. Their music is rich with insights into society and the human condition, life in general. I've learned so much from Hear In The Now Frontier, like I have from their other albums, and I think their approach on this one is very interesting. Although the persona we all know is still there at the core, the musical style is different from their other albums, but it was actually a breath of fresh air for me when they did it. This album is actually quite dynamic. It has a wide variety of songs on it. On its own, I see nothing lacking. In the eyes of its reviewers, I'm afraid I do.
