Free Music Notes for Operation: Mindcrime IIFree Music Review: A Second Masterpiece!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album completely blows my mind! The story is seamless, but like the original, you have to pay close attention and give it several listens before you can decipher everything. Still, the fate of Nikki will be debated for years as was Mary's in the epic original. The music is incredible. It is as aggressive as anything they have done in two decades. This album has all the trademarks of a vintage Queensryche release - scorching dueling guitar pieces and killer solos, splashes of subtle keyboards and orchestration, and the incredible voice of legendary singer Geoff Tate. He sounds as good as he has in 20 years. Guest Ronnie James Dio is a perfect Dr. X and Pamela Moore reprises her role as Sister Mary magnificently. True to QR fashion, it is different than any of their other releases, but incredible just the same. Finally the thought that Queensryche needs Chris DeGarmo to create great music can be put to rest. A simply, brilliant album. Because it is different than most anything out there, it will take 3-4 listens for you to digest it. It is intense in some places and hauntingly beautiful in others and will sound better with each listen.
It will infect you and course through your veins. I've listened at least 10 times through now and it gets better every single time. I cannot stop listening. I have not been captivated by ANY album like this in a long, long time. While I enjoyed several tracks off their last three releases, THIS is the REAL Queensryche!
Thank you Queensryche for delivering the CD the world has been waiting for.
Free Music Review: a mind blowing experience Hit: 5 Stars
i must say after the last album "tribe" which i was dissappointed at best this is a masterpiece. this is the best thing i have heard since dream theater's "metropolis pt II: scenes from a memory", iced earth's "geddysburg 1863", dream evil's "dragonslayer" and tobis sammet's avantasia "the metal opera pt.1 & pt. 2 which are all great storys.
as far as musicianship i dont think they are in the same ballpark as dream theater. i mean i have seen dream theater live twice and they are mindblowing. but queensryche do set a mood and the evolve that mood as the disc continues.
they are great at establishing a mood. in "the chase" you can almost feel the tension rising. later in the song where the strings come in and the tempo increases it feels like there is a chase. almost like a symphony. in "speed of light" they create a tense mood when nikky's character is argueing with the female voices.
the one thing that holds this back and it is not a problem for fans of the ryche, if you have not heard operation mindcrime pt.1 the new one won't make sense.
keep in mind this is not a cd for the faint of heart or someone who does not want to think a bit to understand the story.(which is most of the american music listeners) if you take the time it is an amazing story with great moods. to put it in perspective i had the mp3s for a while and finally got the actual cd and it has not left my cd player in my truck for almost 3 days. might put the 2 cds in and listen to them one right after another.
Up the Irons!
Free Music Review: Intelligent, Musically Diverse, and Fantastic. Hit: 5 Stars
Astounding. When an author, director, or even a band for that matter try to create a sequel to one of their own classics it is always a daunting task. Most simply rehash the original and hope to make a quick buck while doing it, Mindcrime II does not do this.
What we have here is an album that, while similar in parts to the original, takes a bold step with trying something new and fresh. Queensryche's musical maturity shows throughout the album is the band seems almost fearless in it quest to be different. There is simply an incredible range of works here that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere, let alone from an aging 80's band.
Is it as good as the original? Well, most self proclaimed "metal-heads" will tell you no. This is because this is not a metal album. Sure there are metal/hard rock tracks but this is not the focal point of the album. Musically and production wise this outshines the original in every fashion. Suprised? I was as well.
Don't get me wrong Mindcrime II has a few faults here in there, a song or two seem a little two strange towards the end. The story is somewhat weaker than the original (but isn't that always the case?). But this is still a fantastic album for a mature listener. Sure, its not the metal album many were wanting but Queensryche hasn't been metal for quite some time. Forget what others tell you, this album is a must for any fan of progressive, intelligent rock.
Free Music Review: If you have to buy onle ONE CD this year... Hit: 5 Stars
Buy this one. Once again Queensryche has proven to be one of the premier rock bands around. Period. I'm not afraid to say that I've seen how much this band has grown and matured since OM1 (and the great discs that come before OM1). OM2 has the best elements of everything that the band has produced sonce OM1. I can hear elements from Empire, Promised Land, Hear in the now frontier, Q2K, Tribe.
I was 13 when OM1 was released and it changed my perceptions in music forever. I can sit down right now to listen to it and it will always sound different. I always find the sound fresh. Queensryche has achieved something that no other band, IMHO, has been able to do: redefine and grow theur music through the years. Other bands have attempted it (Metallica comes to mind) but have not come close.
This album also shows how close this band is to its fan base. We spoke, they listened. I was so amazed when they throwed a virtual listening pary on Rhino's web site. I actually listened to the entire album a full week before the release date. I still went out and bought the CD. I've been very selective lately on the music I buy, mostly because of the practices of the big record companies and the prices of CD's. But I always draw the line with Queensryche. THIS band I'll always support. GO GUYS.
Now, if only they had Dio with them on tour. THAT would be the icing on the cake.
Keep it up guys.
Free Music Review: awesome, great sequel to a great album Hit: 5 Stars
First off I'd like to say that this album is awesome, I don't think they could have done any better, the solo's are great, the story is solid and if not for anything you have to hear the song "the chase" with Dio, it was like a heavy metal one two punch when I heard that song.
Secondly to you people bashing the album I once again have several things to say, first off they don't need chris degarmo, yes I will admit he's a great guitarist but I'll tell you right now that Geoff Tate is queensryche and he always has been.
Also I don't know if you noticed or not but it's not the 80's anymore and they aren't coming back, queensryche has moved forward yet you all seem to regress back.
Finally if you all think the new queensryche albums are pieces of crap and not even worth the money then why in the blue hell are you even listening to them? you claim you gave up on them long ago but yet you still listen to the new albums to only bash the hell out of them later, if you truly have given up on them quit listening to the albums, quit **tching about it and leave the rest of us who actually enjoy the albums to listen to the music we love, and I know this will piss others off but frankly I don't care right now, unless you can come up with an intelligent reason why you don't like their newer stuff please just keep it to yourself.
for the rest of you queensryche fans out there it's time to Ryche and Roll
