Free Music Notes for Operation: Mindcrime IIFree Music Review: an absolute masterpiece!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, I honestly cannot believe how amazing this album is. Like many Queensryche fans, I was terrified when I heard they were making a sequel to Operation Mindcrime. After their mediocre Q2K and Tribe, I was afraid that the spark and passion from Queensryche was over. But now I will never doubt them again because Operation Mindcrime 2 is one of their best albums ever, right up there with the original, Empire, and Promised Land.
It's a really complex, exciting piece of work that gets more rewarding with each listen. My personal favorite songs are If I Could Change it All (the last minute or so will give you chills), Re-Arrange You (Geoff hasn't sounded this great in years! And he can even pull off the high notes live!), Hostage, All the Promises (one of the most beautiful songs they've ever written), and The Hands (an excellent choice for a single). A Murderer and The Chase are two extremely aggressive and theatrical songs, but I kinda with they could have been blended together to make one long epic, like Suite Sister Mary.
There isn't one second of filler or one weak song on the entire album, although One Foot in Hell sure took awhile to really grow on me.
I cannot believe that this album has received so many negative reviews here. What more could you people ask for?!?!!?!
I haven't heard the new Angra album yet, but right now this is definitely the best album of 2006.
Free Music Review: Complexed and Awe Inspiring Hit: 5 Stars
OK I don't know what all the talk about not going back and all that other nonsense is about as I live in today and am looking for another butt kicking Queensr˙che album and not a trip down memory lane !! And that is just what this album is, the best cd that Queensr˙che has come out with since Operation: Mindcrime 1 !!! Just so you understand what it is I like musically I will tell you that I was a huge fan of Queensr˙che from the first EP Queensr˙che , Warning, Rage for Order, and Operation: Mindcrime,
all excellent classics in my opinion!! I was in fact disappointed with Empire, even though it did have some great material on it, it was a bit to radio friendly and mainstream for my taste, although still an album I own and respect. However with all their albums that followd Queensr˙che
had fallen from grace with me and I was never going to waste my hard earned cash on an other middle of the road water down effort by this once truly great band again.
But then to my surprise jumps this latest entry into the fold !!
And what an entry it is! It is a return to form without trying to live in the past ! In other words it is a hard rocking masterpiece that once again finds Queensr˙che reaching and stretching for new and exciting originality, pushing the fold and above all REAL QUEENSRYCHE music!!!
Free Music Review: ANOTHER MASTERPIECE! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not going to go into some long, drawn out review and criticize or praise individual elements of musical parts or production. In a word (or two) THIS ROCKS! One of Queensryches best releases EVER. It seems that some people reviewing this album are criticizing its forever changing textures within the album. THERE IS A REASON FOR THIS! There is a story playing out here and a very chaotic story at that. THUS, the Chaos within the music. That is QR and that is MINDCRIME.
Took a few listens to start to get the story line down, a few listens after I thought I had it all figured out IT HIT ME! All of the depth of the original is here in the sequel, when you figure it out it will blow you away! The best part is that the band planted the seed for the irony eighteen years ago in the original.
If you don't really care about the story the individual tracks still stand alone for the most part. Tracks like Murderer (OMG!), Re-Arrange You, The Chase (co-starring Ronnie James Dio) & Sign Says Go are hard driving and have great guitar work. Hostage and The Hands are classic Queensryche like we haven't heard in a while.
All in all a fantastic follow-up to the original that offers even more years of thinking and re-thinking the Saga and all of it's Characters. THANK YOU QUEENSRYCHE!
Free Music Review: 4.5 stars My First Queensryche CD Hit: 5 Stars
Yep, it's my first one. In know way can I compare this to the first installment or any of their other stuff. That said, let's get on to the actual cd. Since I've never owned or listened to the first part of this story (Operation: Mindcrime) the story is a little weird and doesn't make a lot of sence to me. It has to do with this guy getting out of jail and trying to kill this other guy named Dr. X, or something like that. As for the music, great progressive metal. I'm not saying that this is the best out there but it's defineitly nowhere near bad or mediocre. I mean, come on, it's not like they switched to metalcore (i'm not hatin' on metalcore, just all the sucky and mediocre bands that inhabit the genre). The music seems to lean more on the metal side of things, but that's cool with me. I aslo love the different melodies used throughout this disc. The guitar works and drumming are all well done too. I probably love Tate's vocals the best though. Even though you can find better stuff out there, this particular cd is bad at all. It might take you a couple of listens before it grows on you but it's money well spent in my opinion. And every time I listen to it, I continue to find new things in it that I didn't notice before. That in my opinion, is one of the things that makes a cd good.
Free Music Review: Best CD of the decade! Hit: 5 Stars
The release of Operation Mindcrime II has proven that Queensryche still has what it takes hearkening back to their original rock-opera roots. I've never met a bigger Queensryche fan, and my anticipation for this album was incredibly high. Upon my first listen, I realized that there wasn't any triumphant track like Suite Sister Mary from the original, but the sequence of the tracks on the CD more than makes up for it. I have not taken the CD out of the player due to the luring plot line and mesmerizing music, and I'm listening to it every chance I get.
The rock-opera sound has never come through as strongly with any of Queensryche's previous releases, and all I can say to that is that Tate and the rest of the band members definitely did their research. With this effort, DeGarmo's guitar skills have been laid to rest, and the sweet licks shatter his former luster. Though this labor of love can't compare to the original in dynamics, it greatly builds from where that storyline left off. Even the finale leaves it up in the air regarding Nikki's fate. This will surely be discussed for years to come, and will make for an ever impressive tour combined with the original CD's storyline. This is the undeniable must buy CD of the decade!
