Free Music Notes for Operation: Mindcrime IIFree Music Review: Not what you expect... but thats not bad. Give it a chance! Hit: 5 Stars
Well, I am like the handful of other reviewers. Disappointed the first time I listened to OMC II. In fact I turned it off and was upset. Then I decided to embark on a journey that took me back 18 years. I decided to listen to OMC I then OMC II directly after once another. Then it all hit me. This album is brilliant. OMC I has a very intense and flurried sound as we travel back in time with the main character Nikki as he rots in a hospital bed. OMC II kicks in perfectly after OMC I but the feel is different. Its very methodical and sinister sounding. It has the sound of revenge and hatred, yet confusion mixed in with desire. Going back into the character of Nikki 18 years later I'd say this is the perfect way to explain Nikki's feelings as he tastes freedom for the first time. The songs aren't as strong as OMC I but they are great. "I'm American" is a great song and very reminicent to the way "Speak" kicks off OMC I's main plot. There is some songs I just don't like but, they mesh the Album and story perfectly. OMC II by itself is a 3/5 but, combined with OMC I it's a perfect sequel to a perfect album, OMC I. Give it a chance, and try listening to them one after another with an open mind, and a creative brain...

Free Music Review: They did it! Hit: 5 Stars
Well it seems like most people are divided on what to think about this new piece. It seems like some of the reviews here could have been written a year ago. Nothing will ever change some peoples minds, and when the album was released they had a couple of listens and posted their predetermined response. Let me tell you this. It took me a long time to talk myself into not being like that. It is hard to accept change. Especially when the first CD was so incredible. After many hundreds of listens of the first one I wanted to have another disc of the same sound, same production, same band members. same everything. I finally decided for myself that I was going to move on. It's been almost 20 years now, and things are not going to be the same.
The first disc wasn't immortalized until Empire had been released. Here we are a couple weeks into this and we have a ways to go. I'm just gonna say that the more I listen to OMII, the more I like it. It's that simple. Give it as many listens as it takes. See it live. Learn the story and enjoy it for what it is. Our society is so on-demand that we just expect what we want. Some people get it and some don't. I feel like I own a treasure that hasn't yet uncovered its true value.
Free Music Review: A new rock genre? Hit: 5 Stars
After all these years of growing up with Queensryche and just a few other HIGH QUALITY hard rock bands (and countless copycats for that matter), we get the sequel to the awe-inspiring and in many cases life-influencing Operation: Mindcrime... and yes, it is remarkable! There are plenty of reviews on this site and by professional critics regarding comparisons with the first one and also about the story of Nikki, so the focus of this observation lies more in regards of the sound on the album: it is heavy, though not "heavy metal"; it is symphonic, though not "symphonic metal" either; it's also progressive but not like Dream Theater progressive, and it is even bluesy but far from being blues rock... so what the heck is this? That is the beautiful part, for in this era of so many rock and metal genres and sub-genres, this album does not fully classify in any of them, but lives among the sounds of hard rock, creating its own soul. Exaggeration? Sit down, listen; stand up, listen again; go to sleep, listen once more. Wake up, turn it THE HELL UP and live the beauty and power of Operation: Mindcrime II (the sequel!), the new one-of-a-kind rock creature by Queensryche, rock creators.
Free Music Review: QUEENSRYCHE rocks NOW, as THEN!! Hit: 5 Stars
Everyone gets older, even those complaining about rock stars aging and "losing their pipes." I don't care if Geoff's pipes seem a little worn out. The fact of the matter is that Queensryche is a great rock band overall, with or without Chris DeGarmo. From what I've seen and heard, apparently it sounds like sour grapes on Chris DeGarmo's part, as he really is being inconsiderate to the fans of Queensryche while he was in the group. By abandoning Queensrych, he's abandoning Queensryche fans. Perhaps he think he's better than the other members of Queensryche. If that's the case, I don't care if he EVER comes back to Queensryche. There's nothing more I hate than a STUCK UP MUSICIAN! There will ALWAYS be someone better, including someone BETTER than you, Chris DeGarmo. Of course, he added his 2 cents to the band, as did the other members and all members' contributions are critical. I really enjoy Queensryche's song "Open" on the Tribe album. This, in fact, could have very well been a track on Empire. I will always be a Queensryche follower/fan. Just remember: All musicians are gifted and there is no room for conceit among the multitude of talented musicians.
Free Music Review: MASTERPIECE 20 YEARS LATER Hit: 5 Stars
This album is a masterpiece... Queensryche has found themselves again! Mindcrime 2 is an excellent follow up to the original mindcrime. Some people are putting it down, and they obviously wanted a rehash of the old mindcrime. This isn't the same album, nor was it meant to be. This is 20 years later and deals with nikki's plot for revenge!
There are hints of mindcrime all over this album, but not as to try to rehash, but to remind. The sound is the same and the intensity is all there, it just doesn't have the "big" production values as mindcrime 1 had, but it is not to have that, for this is about revenge. Listening to mindcrime 1 and 2 back to back, you can feel out the enitre story.Nad they do actually flow together and even though musically mindcrime 2's tone is a bit more dark, the darkness is what beholds revenge for nikki. The band is in top form and it shows. Geoff has made incredible feats in getting back to his power singing. His tone may not be quite as high, but for 20 years later, it is very impressive. And the band just kicks butt!
You will not be disappointed with this album, just don't be expecting a rehash of the old mindcrime.
