Free Music Notes for Operation: Mindcrime II

Free Music Review: The vein has been reopened
Hit: 5 Stars

I give this 5 stars for effort. I expected nothing more that what I have received from the last 4-5 CD's. Acceptable but forgettable music from a band that was looking for an identity.

I actually bought it knowing I wouldn't like it!! Here is what I don't understand. How did they pull this gem out of their tookusus after such prior mediocre material?? This has the same feel and energy as MC 1 without the 80's sheen to it. This is the most cohesive thing they have done for a long time. Yes, it sounds noisy at first but comes together with a few more spins.
Geoff began the 1st few songs in a lower key as expected but really hit stride later in the material. I have nothing to complain about here, as this is far more than I had hoped for.
After the last decade, I can't believe people can't see what an accomplishment this is. Oh yeah, I forgot. Everyone wanted a duplication of the 1st MC. I loved it, but I wanted to spend my money on something different!

Free Music Review: Brilliant Cd!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

As an "old"(42) and jaded metal guy,it's VERY rare that I can put on an album(Cd)and literally get chills. This album did, from start to finish.Unlike some other reviews,I was hooked from note #1.The story, the music, the vocals...everything.If I had one complaint,it would be that the album closes on a slow note and I prefer a more powerful closing track. But given the story, the album closer is more than appropriate.
I first saw Queensryche in 1983(!)opening for Twisted Sister in a bar in Buffalo NY and have their first ep on 206 records,so obviously I'm a lifelong fan. And,like many,I kind of gave up on them after Promised Land.(Let me just say,the albums after Promised Land were not bad, just not appealing to my "heavier"tastes)This is a true return to form for Queensryche.Hell, they even threw in a few bars of Revoloution Calling towards the albums end!(Can't remember the title off hand)
To Sum it up....this is an EXCELLENT,seamless follow up to Operation Mindcrime!

Free Music Review: Surprisingly very, very good
Hit: 5 Stars

OK, let's be honest. If you're expecting this CD to equal or surpass Operation Mindcrime, you're not being realistic. Also, by giving this 5 stars, the first one deserves 10. This used to be my favorite band for a lot of years. Their last few efforts were pitiful in my opinion, and when I heard they were doing an "OM II" I cringed. For obvious reasons - lost band members, lots of years passed, etc. - my expectations were very low for this CD, but I was pleasantly surprised. Geoff Tate still sounds amazing, Scott Rockenfield still jams, and whoever the replacement guitarist is is decent. First time through I was not impressed at all. After several repeat listenings it's really grown on me. There aren't any real standout tracks like on the first one but overall it's a very good effort. Give it some time... As an added bonus it's made me get into the first one again, which I haven't listened to in some time, and it's just as incredible as ever.

Free Music Review: Don't listen to it once.
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first listened to this CD, I was not overly impressed. I preferred the sound of the original Mind Crime. I really had to listen to it 3 to 4 times to really appreciate it. Then I saw them in concert with all of Mind Crime one and two. Now I can't put it away. The story line of one carried over to two is great.
For those who say it is not a good sequel or who concentrate in the flaws of the story line, well get a life, it is fiction not fact.
For those who say there are no stand alone hits like the first one, well, that may be the case in your opinion, but there are some tracks that could possibly stand alone. The Chase, One Foot in Hell, Hostage, The Hands, Signs Say Go, and Re-Arrange You. All good tracks from this release that could stand alone.
Highly recommended for Queensryche fans of all ages.

For the band, if you read this, Please come back to South Carolina.

Free Music Review: Don't be too soon to judge this GREAT ALBUM
Hit: 5 Stars

A lot of people including myself have been hard on Mindcrime 2 but if you give it some time, the tracks all start to fit together perfectly making for a superb followup to the original Mindcrime. Not all of the songs are full speed ahead rocking tunes, but in Queensryche fashion, they are thought provoking and the melodies and hooks are there. The first couple of spins, i knew i enjoyed a good third of the songs like Signs Says No and Re-Arrange but i wasn't so sure about the first half of the album. Well, 10 listens later, i love the entire album. This is the best album Queensryche have put out in years. Do not read these reviews and think, this album is not worthy. Anyone with a one or two line review usually put that same amount of time into listening to the album. Any real Queensryche fan knows how complex their music can be. Can't wait to see them on tour doing both Mindcrime albums back to back!!
