Free Music Review: The best concept album of all time?
Hit: 5 Stars

This review should be taken with a grain of salt, since Queensryche are one of my all-time favorites, and this is one of my all-time favorite albums. In terms of concept albums, along with "The Wall" by Pink Floyd and "Tommy" by The Who, "Mindcrime" has to be one of the very best. It spins the intensely memorable story of Nikki, Sister Mary, and Dr. X through unforgettable tracks like "Revolution Calling", "The Mission", "The Needle Lies", "I Don't Believe in Love", and "Eyes of a Stranger". One of the major criteria that this album meets in order to be a truly great concept album is that you can listen to many of the songs individually and enjoy them tremendously. In addition to the great storytelling skills displayed here by Geoff Tate, there is also highly intelligent commentary to be found here about the politically corrupt and morally bankrupt lifestyle of late 1980s America, and the themes presented hold a haunting amount of relevance today. All of this "thinking man's metal" is enveloped in the grand melodies and intense solos of guitarists Michael Wilton and Chris DeGarmo. This, my friends, is awesome stuff, from one of the forefathers of so-called "progressive metal".

Free Music Review: My favorite album ever.
Hit: 5 Stars

This was the first album that I can remember ever considering a favorite. It just blew me away like nothing else I'd heard at the time, and has remained a favorite for many years. Over time, I came across other stuff that I came to like just as much, and even more, but I've since come full circle, and this album is back to number one, where it will likely remain for good.

This is just brilliant. Great original story, perfect music, and some of the best vocals ever. I mean come on dude, does it really get any better than "Suite Sister Mary"? Ok, maybe "Eyes of a Stranger". But this whole album is just so beautiful and perfect. The ending nearly brings me to tears, it's so powerful, and I'm not one to cry easily. Plus, I saw them play this album live last year, and it was the most amazing damn thing I've ever seen. Nothing will ever top that concert for me. Holy crap!

If you like metal, buy this. I can't wait for "Mindcrime 2". I'm sure it probably won't be nearly this good, but I'm looking forward to it just the same.

You rock, Geoff! Let's hang out sometime dude!

Free Music Review: The best metal album ever!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, I'll say the best ever and stand behind that statement to the death. This album has never gotten old for me. Even after 16 years I still throw this in the CD player a few times a year. Not only is the story awesome and very tight (other reviewers have made good note of this) but the musicianship is top notch.

Queensryche accomplished what they set out to do: they made the quintessential rock opera to stand the test of time. This is easily the best album Queensryche ever made followed by Empire. No one (not even themselves) has been able to come close to it. This is a must have for any prog metal or just metal head. Great songwriting and excellent musicians.

This is the kind of album that you never want to end. Every song is a winner and by the time you get to the climax ending of Eyes Of A Stranger you're wanting to start the whole thing over again. You feel like you've lived and died with the characters in the story and if you're a guitar player you're wanting to get home to play along.

Can't say enough about this album. It's just simply the best ever!!!

Free Music Review: To that idiot MTV Rocks...
Hit: 5 Stars

MTV Rocks is the biggest idiot ever! He bashes on this classic masterpiece and yet he says that a real concept album is Usher's "Confessions"! What the hell! He also says that this album sucks because it wasn't played on MTV or a Top 40 station but who gives a fu**?! He also says that Avril LOSERlaving and Lindsey HOEhan are "da bestest gatar plyas eva!!!!!!!!" That's so untrue! MTV Rocks sucks and always will!!!

Okay on to the album. This is one of metal's best concept albums ever right up there with King Diamond's "Abigail" and Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son". The storyline is about a guy named Nikki who gets brainwashed by the evil Dr. X. He makes Nikki do bad things like develop a drug addiction. Then Dr. X tells Nikki to kill a politican, his girlfriend, and a priest. Will Nikki be able to overcome the evil Dr. X?! Listen to the album and find out...
The album's great! The vocals, guitars, synths etc. are all perfect! MTV Rocks is a complete idiot and he should delete his fu**ing account! This is truly one of metal's best albums and is a classic not to be missed!

Free Music Review: Considered the standard bearer for prog rock
Hit: 5 Stars

I won't write a lot here because all the reviews speak for themselves. I first heard this album in 1989 as a kid and was floored by how good it was. Every time I listen to it these days, I'm still floored by how good it is.

It's a fact and not my opinion that this album is the standard bearer against which most subsequent progressive rock was judged. The progressive rock circles & press all hail this album as THE benchmark where greats like Dream Theater and Symphony X found inspiration, and they say as much themselves. And the best part about the album, as I said, is that not only was it the standard bearer - but it continues to be. Prog may have changed some over the years, but the timelessness of this album and its amazing riffs & tunes, poignant story line, and breathtaking innovation still leave a mark on listeners today.

This album will be inspiring new prog rock enthusiasts for a long time to come, and they will be giving it 5 stars too.
