Free Music Notes for Double UpFree Music Review: Kellz the Champ!!! Hit: 4 Stars
If you are looking for a You Saved Me/or 12 Play this is NOT the CD for you...There's a saying you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of time. Everyone keeps saying that Kellz needs to grow up or think about his original audience (1992). There is no way he could do 15 years of Slow Dance, Honey Love, Bump and Grind, type songs and last in the game for 15 years. Kellz has lasted so long because he keeps an ear to the street and gives the people what is hot at that time. He had stated he was going to do a R&B type album but after his hits with Jeezy, T-pain, Huey, Bow-Wow ect he decided to switch it up. Which to me is smart business. It's the 18-25 year old that sell out crowds and buy CD's every Tuesday (multiple copies at that). So its only smart that he hooks the new generation. Who are now going back to buying his older stuff too. My 18 year old cousin is bumpin 12 play like it came out yesterday. Yeah he's almost 40, yeah he's the old head in the club (I'm 26) but you have to admit he is keeping the club and radios bangin right now. He is the most creative artist around. He's the champ and like any champ he's got to switch to south paw every once in a while to keep you guessing. That's my little 2 cents

Free Music Review: Finally...There's a R Kelly CD Worth Buying! Hit: 4 Stars
Robert Kelly continues his reign as the self-proclaimed King of R&B with the release of Double Up, a collection of songs that run the gamut from good to bad. The self-titled album track features Snoop Dogg and is a decent offering but isn't necessarily single-worthy. Nelly lends a helping hand for "Tryin' To Get A Number" while Chamillionaire adds some Dirty South flavor for the song "Get Dirty." "Leave Your Name" is a nice slow serenade, and "Freaky In The Club" is a mid-to-slow tempo groove with a touch of island rhythm. The absolutely worst creation on the cd has to be "The Zoo," filled with references to various animals, 'jungle' sounds, and Tarzan calls. He quickly redeems himself with the borrowed reworking of "I'm A Flirt" with T.I. and T-Pain (a previous rendition was included on Bow Wow's The Price of Fame album as a hidden bonus track). He then dives right into the standout smash with Usher called "Same Girl" that was originally a studio-produced track that Atlanta R&B group Nephu recorded but never legally owned. "Real Talk" sounds like the epilogue of the "Trapped In The Closet" series since it literally is all talk and no singing throughout the entire track. "Hook It Up" features Hip-Hop newcomer Huey ("Pop, Lock and Drop It") while Ludacris and Kid Rock collaborate with Kels for the misplaced "Rock Star." Keyshia Cole and Polow Da Don trade verses with R Kelly for the conversation-style song "Best Friend." He closes out the album with the bass-heavy "Rollin," the slow and sexy "Sweet Tooth," the tender melody of "Havin' A Baby," the intergalactic slow track "Sex Planet," and his powerful Virginia Tech tribute song "Rise Up." Although there are a few missteps, Double Up stands out as R. Kelly's strongest album in years.
Free Music Review: What's Wrong With Being Diverse???? Hit: 4 Stars
R. Kelly is acclaimed the King of R&B but evidently, a lot of people don't agree to dat. Almost everybody includin myself completly hated Kellz's ladt CD "TP3 RELOADED" it was horrendous with very little substance. R. Kelly's style back in tha day was true R&B and he was a true G, but lately he has changed from being bald to cornrows, from singing wit feeling , to singing popish with barely any vocal range. I am not that dissapointed wit this album, I'm glad to see R. Kelly makin a comeback after being accused of so many sex trials n s***.
Like the album complies, Double Up meaning that R. Kelly is doin tha same singing while also tryin to rap here and there, and also havin twice as many guest appearances than previous albums. There are 18 tracks each havin its own flavor, My favorite tracks are Double Up feat. Snoop Dogg, Rock Star ft. Kid Rock and Ludacris, Best Friend feat. Keyshia Cole and Polow Da Don, and I'm A Flirt Remix feat. T.I. and T-Pain. I especially like "Best Friend" it has a sick catchy beat with R. Kelly bein in jail and Keyshia bein his wife and Polow being the Best Friend which R. Kelly is accusing him of doin it wit his wife its a conversational song meaning that they are talking to each other while singing. So anyway this isn't a sell out album like people are makin this album to be, it has a lot of hits and while R. kelly isn't back to his prime style yet, this is a pretty good resurgence.
Free Music Review: An OK Album Hit: 4 Stars
I've always enjoyed R. Kelly's music from day one, back in the '90s. His recent and best album in this century is "TP3". "Double Up"is a little bit of a disappointment. There are a couple of good songs like "Get Dirty" with Chamillionaire, and "I'm A Flirt". The rest of the album is mediocre. One of the reviewers stated that he is 40 yrs old, but trying to pass himself off as a 25 yr old thug. I think a lot of this has to do with the way radio is nowadays. If his music was more mature, it would not get played on Hip-Hop stations, and would largely go un-noticed. Even video channels like BET would not pick it up. It's a pretty sad state-of-affairs if an artist has to try and act young, just to be able to get his album out there on commercial radio. The other thing that seems to be common is older artist featuring young Hip Hop artists on their albums. This is done to try and appeal to a young audience, and get picked up on radio. Nowadays, everyone seems to be fixated on Hip Hop, and great R&B singers seems to get looked over, or not even noticed by the media.
Free Music Review: A Musical Genious Hit: 4 Stars
I have to agree with the previous review that suggests giving this album multiple listens before reviewing. The lyrics to a few of these cuts make you stand back and wonder. But once you get a feel for the song overall you realize just how ingenious this man is. He never ceases to amaze me.
The musical production and vocal arrangements that Kelly combines always seems to work. After all who else can write a song about being a flirt and win so big?? Realistically, its the music track and the melody that make a song, then the lyrics are secondary. And Kelly gets that. That's why his songs can seem so nonconventional and still win.
His many collaborations on this CD had me concerned initially because I buy his CDs to hear his work not everyone else. But even though Kelly collaborates with many artists, the songs are still stamped by Kelly himself.
This is a must have for R.Kelly loyalists. Great work.
