Free Music Notes for Hi InfidelityFree Music Review: Classic up-tempo rock album Hit: 5 StarsPrior to recording this album, REO Speedwagon had been around for many years having a measure of success in their American homeland. This album took their career to a much wider audience at home while gaining international recognition for them, including the first two of their three UK hits.
About half the tracks climbed high in the American charts, with Keep on loving you hitting the very top - it also made the UK top ten. Take it on the run, also a huge American hit, made the UK top twenty. Don't let him go and In your letter were among the other American hits. The music is almost relentlessly up-tempo.
Any group that has such a long career (and plenty that don't) inevitably go through personnel changes. The line-up that recorded this album was Kevin Cronin (lead vocals, guitar), Gary Richrath (lead guitar), Alan Gratzer (drums), Neal Doughty (keyboards) and Bruce Hall (bass guitar). Kevin's strong but well-controlled vocals backed by the superb musicianship of the other members made this album a classic.
Good as their other albums are (at least the ones I've heard including Good trouble and Wheels, the two that followed this one), this is the album for which REO Speedwagon will be remembered for in America (where it was the biggest selling rock album of 1981) and elsewhere (where it gave them recognition that they previously didn't have).
If you only buy one REO Speedwagon album, make it this one - even ahead of a hits collection. Most of their greatest hits are here.
Free Music Review: Reo's Best! Hit: 5 StarsI was just 11 when I got this record and I would play it everyday after school for several months. I own about 1000 cds and this is easily in my top 100! Reo had a good balance at this time with Gary Richrath, the rocker, on guitar (very underrated) and Kevin Cronin, the pop/ballad writer. I like every song on here but the best are Follow My Heart, Take It On The Run (great solo), Keep On Loving You (one of the first "power ballads"), Someone Tonight (I dig the vocals), and Don't Let Him Go (great chorus). After this album I slowly started to lose interest in Reo. They did write some good songs here and there but as is the case with many bands that have huge success (Def Leppard) they start writing for a certain market and forget their roots. Of course there are probably early Reo fans who say that about this album but I still think it is their best. Why are there so few reviews for this album? It deserves more appreciation!
Free Music Review: Reo's commercial breakthrough! Hit: 5 StarsWhile certain members of Reo Speedwagon's fanbase were not pleased when Hi Infidelity came out, you can't say that Hi Infidelity isn't a great album. I am a fan of all Reo Speedwagon own all but 1 Reo Speedwagon album.1980 was the time for arena rock like Reo Speedwagon, Journey, and Foreigner these are the great arena rock groups of the 1980's.Even twenty four years after it was released Hi Infidelity still gets a lot of attention.AT Reo concerts they usually play 4 or 5 songs off the album. Songs include Don't Let Him Go, and one of the greatest love songs of all time Keep on Loving You, Take it on The Run, and concert favorites Tough Guys and In Your Letter. The rest of the album Follow My Heart,Out of Season, Someone Tonight, Shakin It Loose, and I Wish You Were Here are as great as the rest of the album. Hi Infidelity is everything great about arena rock!
Free Music Review: Truly a classic... Hit: 5 StarsI first heard REO Speedwagon through my parents. They would play their LP over and over. Now that I am older I can appreciate their taste of music. I finally decided to buy this album. Not disappointed at all. Can't really find music like this anymore.
Free Music Review: Great Album Hit: 5 StarsAny one who says this is not a great album is talking bu**.
As fans of a band we normally feel let down when our favorite band becomes hot property for lesser music fans.
This is a classic MoR Album. It rocks even today. It was difficult to get a copy in India but I just bought by copy last week.
'Dont let him go' is just a great fast paced opener which i love.
'In your letter', and the famous 'Take it on the run' are great slower numbers.
Its a great 80's rock album. A must have for all rock fans as it was one of the most popular rock albums in its year of relase.
