Free Music Review: Forget the Floyd comparisons.

If you're reading this, you already know that RPWL is a German group that started out a Pink Floyd cover band, and now releases their own Floyd-influenced albums (due in large part to the singer's David Gilmour-esque vocals). This, though, is far, far ahead of anything they've ever done, a 70-minute progressive-rock masterpiece that tones down the Pink Floyd sound (they've only ever really sounded like latter-period P.F. to me anyways, which is far from my favorite era of that band, so no complaints here). Hard to describe this really. They blend so many other influences into their sound that encompasses everything from the Beatles to Rush, from 90's electronica into 70's space-rock, that it's hard to pigeon-hole. Foremost, and like the other masters of current prog Porcupine Tree, they've really discovered the art of melodic structure on this album. Summation: if you liked these guys before, you're gonna be blown away now!
