Free Music Notes for In RainbowsFree Music Review: Radiohead continue to not disappoint Hit: 5 Stars
For the converted, it goes without saying that Radiohead is one of the best and most important bands of the last two decades, and they continue to take their greatness to another level; hence, their lastest effort, "In Rainbows," which is giving "OK Computer" a serious runs for its money for the title of Best Radiohead record.
"In Rainbows" isn't one of those albums that is going to blow your doors off on its first, second, or even third listen, although I wouldn't be surprised if it did! At first, I thought it was good, but never envisioned being addicted to it like I am now. As time has gone on, I find that there are times when I literally cannot stop listening to it. It is one of those records that, as soon as it ends, you immediately want to listen to it again.
Trying to pick out favorite songs is not an easy task, as every single song is so good, a great indicator of a truly great record.
I know some have said that this record isn't as ground-breaking as masterpieces like "OK Computer" and "Kid A," two records that deserve every bit of praise that they get, but to me, "In Rainbows" combined the best of everything Radiohead had done before it; it combines the rocking and catchy sensibilities of "The Bends" with the experimental edges of "Kid A" and "OK Computer" with the electronic flourishes of "Amnesiac" and "Hail to the Thief." In short, "In Rainbows" is THE perfect Radiohead record.
Free Music Review: Good Stuff!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first review I've ever written for any album or band ever. I'm fanatical about music, have been for my whole life, and am an active musician. The problem is, I've never truly liked 90% of the music or bands I've ever heard.. ever. Radiohead is in that 10% that hits the nail on the head for me musically. From 'OK Computer' on, every album has been some of the most unique & saintly creations ever put together.
I absolutely love what Radiohead has become after their sub-par mainstream albums like 'The Bends'. They are one of the only bands that are making music that is as close to visual art that's ever existed.
Like a few previous Radiohead albums, 'In Rainbows' was confusing for me at first. I didn't understand what they were doing, and thought maybe they're losing it. Their music is so unique & new, it's hard for many people to understand it at first, and 'In Rainbows' is no exemption.
I'd have to say 'Bodysnatchers', 'Weird Fishes' & 'Jigsaw Falling Into Place' are my favorites right now. But it may change. They're all good in some respects, but some tracks may take a while to grow on you.
Thom Yorke has to be the most creative male vocalist alive. His melodies are an instrument in itself. I don't even care about the lyrics half the time because I'm lost in the melody. I continue to be amazed, and I almost want to thank them for continuing to make music that's genuinely good.
Free Music Review: CD much better than the download Hit: 5 Stars
My review is not on the music itself. Others are more capable of discussing the merits or lack thereof. I enjoyed In Rainbows and rate it five starts but the point of my review is on the quality of the CD compared to the original download.
I downloaded In Rainbows when they first released it and paid nothing. My wife says I am lame for doing this but my reasoning was that I didn't know how good the quality would be ... sure enough 160 kbs not even variable bit rate!
Anyways I bought the CD last week and ripped it to FLAC.
The verdict? Much better and the greater detail is easy to hear ... Radiohead typically has a lot of little nuances to their music and the full resolution of the CD makes these liitle details easier to notice. In fact the download was disappointing but the sound of the CD is amazing and more than makes up for it.
You don't need expensive equiment to appreciate the difference you simply need to listen to the music. Even my wife who is nearly tone deaf and shakes her head when I discuss soundstage, imaging, and other things she normally cannot discern has remarked how much better the CD sounds.
In short, if you like this album you owe it to yourself to buy the CD and rip it to at least 192 variable bit rate to fully enjoy what Radiohead has created on this album. I'm also very glad I paid zero for the download. Which my wife still considers lame.
Free Music Review: Wow. Hit: 5 Stars
This was my first radiohead cd.
To be completely honest, the first listen didnt impress me much. 15 step was catchy, and overall a pretty good song, but none of the rest really got to me....at first.
But, like all good music, it has to grow on you.
This is one of those rare cd's i can listen to start to finish and enjoy every last second.
Absolutely brilliant.
Its got it all.
Listen to nude or videotape and compare to bodysnatchers or jigsaw falling into place.
No matter what mood your in, this cd has a song for you.
Odd as it sounds, this cd will make you happy.
I am now a radiohead fan, and have since buying this album about 15 days after it came out, have bought OK computer and the bends [both are brilliant].
The album artwork is splendid as well. The cd wouldnt be the same without it.
Be warned:
You are not buying a jewel case cd. You are ordering a sort of "make your own cd" packaging.
I find it interesting. The way i see it sounds strange so i just wont include it.
Just make sure you have a spare jewel case around. You can usually get them at cd shops.
Basically, if your a new radiohead fan like i was, and your not feeling it, give it a few more listens, and a bit more time. It might just not be for you. But i believe this album to be gold. I will be listening to it for a long, long time.
Free Music Review: Radiohead in true form Hit: 5 Stars
Radiohead has suffered in a lot of people's minds because they have not recreated that special sound that was present in "Ok Computer" and "Kid A". But the problem, as I see it, is people praise albums just for the sake of going along with everyone else. One of the finest points of any album of Radiohead is their ability to layer in all sorts of sounds to drive a certain mood and feeling with their music. Upon this the place incredible lyrics that challenge, condemn, and motivate the listener.
Like not hear before I hear different sounds pulling all into one album to form a great sound. To me it is the first time since "Kid A" that I feel like they have begun to exhale. "Hail to the Thief" seemed to bring me up to the point of exhaustion. And it would seem once they were freed of a commitment to a company, they were allowed to exhale as well.
All these musical ideas that were formed into albums have now puled into this one.
"Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" is one of their best songs. For me this song embodies what Radiohead is all about. It delivers excellent musicality along with tremendous amounts of emotion. As some fans may feel like it's an soft version of Radiohead, I would ask them to revisit "The Bends" and "Ok Computer" to see that this is Radiohead in true form.
I also highly recommend finding the B side for this album.
