Free Music Notes for Evil Empire

Free Music Review: An album that continues to influence. 1990s: Rage Against the Machine. 2010: Kongcrete
Hit: 5 Stars

RATM, as heard on this album, are no doubt legends in this genre and have influenced bands that have followed. Are there any other bands like RATM? I know of no other band except NYC-based Kongcrete whom I discovered when I saw their awesome video for their Joker theme song for The Dark Knight movie. The music video and music rock! Their other songs on myspace.com/kongcrete, Amazon, and iTunes are like Rage, Korn, Linkin Park, and Publc Enemy on steroids. And they seem to be inspired by horror and action movies. Anybody know more about this band? They have a poll on myspace, and I voted for Punisher as the next movie they need to write a song for.

Free Music Review: Rage's weakest, IMO.
Hit: 4 Stars

Don't hurt me now.

Not quite a sophomore slump; I give it 3.5 stars. Doesn't have the aggressive freshness of the debut nor does it rock as hard as the third one. This falls somewhere in between (literally). Rage's MOR record.

Recommended, but get the other two first.

Free Music Review: Rage at their best
Hit: 5 Stars

Of the entire Rage catalog, nothing comes off as hard, as heavy, as poignant as Evil Empire. Probably they're most recognizable album, Evil Empire is filled with hard hitting power. The first three songs (the trilogy of rock - People of the Sun, to Bulls on Parade, to Vietnow) define the pace of the entire album. Down Rodeo has, for me, some of the best lyrics I've ever heard in a song. I still get goosebumps all these years later. "These people ain't seen a brown skinned man since their grandparents bought one."

I miss this band, and am thrilled to see them working together again. I dream of seeing a new album from them. I hope it comes close to Evil Empire.

Free Music Review: Rage's second best album
Hit: 5 Stars

Evil Empire is the second best Rage album, succeeding their debut. It's a must buy, it being worth the amazon price 100%. A quick review on the songs should begin and end my review. Enjoy!

People of the Sun-a decent song about the Zapatista suffering down below in sun-filled Mexico, therefore making them the "People of the Sun". 8/10

Bulls on Parade-My personal favorite, lyrical meaning is that the government "bulls" are going out on parade with their propaganda and overpriced items. This song has a great guitar riff, and excellent solo replicating a DJ turntable scratching sound (but that's Tom for you, always innovating new guitar techniques), which ends with Zack repeatedly screaming "BULLS ON PARADE!" like a madman 8 times. 10/10

Vietnow-Very political, yet excellent song about old left-wing radio shows (referred to as "the devil's sound" in the song) that used propaganda to get the common man to do unneccesary work for the crappy, liberal government we live for. 9/10

Revolver-I'm not sure what it's about (it's pretty unaudible), although it features Zack toggling between whispering, talking and screaming wildly. Great guitar work, with an all guitar interlude in the beginning spanning about 30 seconds. 9/10

Snakecharmer-Doing everything from comparing the government to a killer and protesting greed, this pre-Sleep Now in the Fire song features one of the most unique guitar solos and techniques I've ever heard on any song in general. 9/10

Tire Me-Audible but I don't understand the lyrics. The bassline is pretty decent (it being quite louder than the other instuments on the recording). This is one of the best songs on this album. 9/10

Down Rodeo-Zack raps about racism on the popular, white-bred Rodeo Drive, California in their longest song yet it being approximately 8 minutes long. With the Guitar sounding something like the Pac-Man theme (it being very Techno sounding) this song is pretty cool. I give it 8/10

Without A Face- Zack raps about the racism and isolation a man of a different race may feel when he tries to "cross the white wall". Good Beat Very Hip-Hoppish, which turns into straight out hardcore rock towards the latter half. 9/10

Wind Below-Criticizing Television stations ABC and NBC, and companies The New Trust Bank and GE is pretty cool in Wind Below, which features a great solo towards the middle and another one toward the end. 9/10

Roll Right- "Roll Right, which features the best Guitar on the album, from the intro to the 30 second solo towards the end. Tom Morello uses the cool technique of amp feedback on this song to a large extent.
(Feedback is the resulting echo you get when pointing your guitar towards your amp and the noise emissions from both the guitar and the amp collide)

Year of tha Boomerang-Like all great things, Evil Empire must come to an end, and the second-best ender, behind "Freedom" (from their debut) is Year of tha Boomerang, a highly catchy song with numerous solos, just as much feedback used as in "Roll Right", great lyrics, and a beat/rhythm that would be used again five years later for Rage's 2000 released covers album "Renegades" , and it's track "Pistolgrip Pump".

I hope I've been helpful.
I would just like to say:
Buy this excellent album,
Support the "Best Band on Earth!" (50% royalties go to the band if you buy this NEW),
and enjoy all eleven songs (I mean masterpieces) on EVIL EMPIRE.

Free Music Review: Always seems to be the same song playing
Hit: 2 Stars

When I listen to this cd, it seems to me that I am listening to the same song all the time. There ain't no subtilities in this music.
We can't say that the signer sings, I would say that he cry out loud.
This music is dedicated to those who are frustrated and I am not.
If you like rock mixed with rap, you will love it but I didn't.
