Never in the history of Broadway has there been a more perfect musical. Every song is memorable, powerful, and beautiful. The cast is flawless without exception. Check out all three of the other Ahrens and Flaherty musicals, My Favorite Year, Once on this Island, and especially Lucky Stiff. Ragtime deserves to remain on Broadway forever. This is the best investment I ever made; you will never need to buy any other form of entertainment after you've heard this CD. With 38 tracks of Broadway's best songs, this soundtrack is incredible. The show itself is so moving and this cast features some of the best voices I have ever heard. Marin Mazzie as Mother, Audra McDonald as Sarah, and Brian Stokes Mitchell as Coalhouse are my favorites. All of the songs are show-stoppers, but I would name the following as my absolute favorites: "Your Daddy's Son," "New Music," "Wheels of a Dream," "Til We Reach that Day," "Sarah Brown Eyes," and "Make Them Hear You." The booklet of this two-disk soundtrack also features incredible stills and lyrics from the show.Free Music Review: Wow

It seems that everyone is always fawning over Audra McDonald, but the voice that impresses me most is that of Marin Mazzie: it's clear, powerful, and expressive. That said, this is a remarkably intense and complete 2-disc set. The orchestra is flawless, the other performers are amazing as well. This is what a Broadway soundtrack should be: it's got the Broadway sound with elements of jazz and rag thrown in. If you like the musical, this is an impressive cast recording. It would have been the "crime of the century" had this superb cast recording not been nominated for a Grammy. I have listened non-stop to this CD since I bought it back in May. I cannot imagine EVER tiring of it. "New Music" is my favorite "big" number, and "Our Children" is my fave. "quiet" number. From beginning to end, this score has got to be one of the best we'll ever hear. "Ragtime" fan forever !! Oh yeah, the show is even better than the OCR, for those who haven't seen the show yet!Free Music Review: Some of the best stuff on Broadway!

Ragtime is truly a wonderful Broadway show with spectacular music! I personally love the Prologue, Goodbye My Love, Journey On, Crime of the Century, Success, every other song on Disc 1, Entr'acte, and the rest of Disc 2 the most...wait, that's every song! Every song on Ragtime is beautiful and great! The only problem that I have with the whole thing is that all of the songs are so short, but it doesn't matter to me because they are all spectacular, short or long! This CD (or 2 CD's) is a must-buy for all Broadway fanatics (like myself)! Enjoy!
