Free Music Review: Incredible and Emotional Musical Journey
Hit: 5 Stars

Oh how I wish I could have seen this show! Ragtime is just simply phenomenal. Hands down the best cast ever recording on an album, and the most varied and dynamic score ever written for the stage. The prologue alone leaves you in awe, but than such powerful numbers as "Your Daddy's Son", "Wheels of a Dream", and "Make Them Hear" just break your heart. Definitely a tragic tale with pain that hits closer to home than that of the more known tragedy of Les Mis. Brian Stokes Mitchell was certainly robbed of a Tony for his phenomenal portryal of Coalhouse Walker Jr. who, along with Audra McDonald's Sarah, steal the entire show. The additional stage effects that are heard on the recording also enhance the CD as well. Truly an amazing triumph in musical history. It's a shame that is closed so soon. WE NEED A REVIVAL!!!

Free Music Review: [Darn] the Lion King!
Hit: 5 Stars

Stolen, thats what it was Stolen! The Lion King over Ragtime, it was supposed to be a no-brainer. Ragtime is the greatest musical that has shown itself in the past 10 years. It ranks with The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. The story is brilliant, the music is phenomenal, the lyrics are fantastic. You can't get any better than Ragtime! "It was the music, of something beginning, an Era exploding, a century spinning, in riches and rags, and in rhythm and rhyme! The people called it Ragtime!" Breathtaking.

Highlights:
The Prologue
Coalhouses Soliloquoy
Journey On
Henry Ford
Your Daddy's Son
Oh forget it they are all genius

With powerhouse performances by Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Mark Jacoby, and others, this is a sure hit for anybody!

Free Music Review: THIS IS THE BEST MUSICAL EVER!
Hit: 5 Stars

When I bought the concept CD, Songs from Ragtime, I could never have suspected that it would draw me so close and never let go! I had to see the show, and did! Unfortunately, I just found out that the show is closing in January of 2000. I nearly cried when I heard this, for this is a musical like none other! I thought Les Mis was the best until I heard this. It simply blows Les Mis out of the water! BUT THIS CD! YOU MUST! And buy the concept one too! They both differ from each other. Ragtime is THE musical of the century, and deserved the Tony over Lion King without a doubt! Ragtime is all about heart and passion, love, devotion, and freedom! It does NOT disappoint! It does the opposite! It enthralls and amazes! Add this to your shopping cart--you won't regret it later!

Free Music Review: Simply Gorgeous!
Hit: 5 Stars

BY far, this is one of the best musicals out there. I was first introduced to this piece when our local orchestra and play group performed the concert version. I have been a fan ever since.
The music presents a wide range of styles, from the fast and furious, to the slow and heartwrenching. THe story is gorgeous and the music fits along perfect.
Some of the best songs are "Crime of the Century", "Henry Ford", "What a Game!", "Make them hear YOu", "He Wanted to say", and my very favorite, "Back to Before". Of course there are far too many to name here and in fact, the whole CD is a gem.
This musical is very compelling and stirs up your patriotic spirit and thirst for justice. I HIGHLY recommend this to all. There is something for everyone here!

Free Music Review: Compelling!
Hit: 5 Stars

In 1997, Canadian theatrical producer brought out a musical based on E.L. Doctorow's 1975 hit novel, Ragtime. This hit play tells several stories simultaneously, but largely revolves around one complacent white family coming to terms with the issues of race and class in early 20th century America. The 38(!) songs on this two CD set walk the listener through the play, giving you a wonderful familiarity with the story.

The songs on these CDs are wonderfully written and performed, and are truly each a work of art. I have enjoyed hours of listening to the songs over and over again. Indeed, closing your eyes, you can listen to these songs and feel as if you have seen the play; the songs are that compelling! Overall I enjoyed these CDs and highly recommend them to everyone.
