Free Music Notes for Difficult to CureFree Music Review: Blackmore does Beethoven. Hit: 4 Stars
There is only one reason to get this album, and that's "Difficult to Cure," the last track, which is Blackmore and Company doing Beethoven's 9th. I thought Zubin Mehta did a great job with this, but, take my word, Beethoven was never this much fun. This album is for die-hard Blackmore fans. Most of the album is pretty insipid, so don't expect classic Deep Purple or Rainbow Rising. Get it to hear Beethoven's 9th.One of the best heavy metal instrumentals ever. Too bad it's on such a dog of an album.
Free Music Review: VERY GOOD Hit: 4 Stars
Joe Lynn Turner is a great lead singer, unfortunately too much attracted to pop music. This is clear in this album, "I SURRENDER" and "MAGIC", two weak songs (the first being a cover). THe best song, far and away, is the instrumental track using Beethoven pieces. The rest is average, but in no way bad.
Free Music Review: Superb...nothing difficult. Hit: 4 Stars
With Joe Lynn Turner,ex-Fandango,Rainbow got a more polished sound and even attempted some crossover material with some success.Great songs on this record as one can safely expect from a genius like Ritchie Blackmore.
Free Music Review: Blackmore & Turner Hit: 4 Stars
Joe Lynn Turner on lead vocals and Ritchie Blackmore on guitar can't possibly fail to give you quality entertainment and this Cd is no exception. Spotlight Kid is one of my favorites.
Free Music Review: Rainbow's weakest studio release Hit: 3 Stars
Even still, there are enough strong tracks to merit 3 stars. "Spotlight Kid" and "Can't Happen Here" are great and would have fit nicely on "Down To Earth" (and been improved by Graham Bonnet's vocals). "No Release" is kind cool, if a bit generic, and the two instrumentals are just fine. By the way, the definitive version of the title track (Beethoven's Ninth) can be found on "Finyl Vinyl" where it is performed live with full orchestra--fantastic.As for the rest, "I Surrender" and "Magic" are attempts at pop, the former being marginally acceptable and the latter just awful. "Freedom Fighter" and "Midtown Tunnel Vision" are just dull and generic with bad lyrics. Joe Lynn Turner is easily the least impressive of Rainbow's vocalists, but he is still pretty good--just somewhat lacking in character. Not a great album by any means, but there's lots worse. And, hey, that is Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. How bad can it be?
