Free Music Notes for RisingFree Music Review: Best Album Of All Time!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album proves Ronnie James Dio is the best vocalist of all time. His voice is more powerful than anything. Ritchie Blackmore is one of the top 5 guitarists of all time and has the most unique sound ever. Cozy Powells drumming is absolutely incredible as is Tony Careys keyboard work and Jimmy Bains bass playing. This has 4 fantasy songs, 1 good rocker and a 1 good short commercial song. Now here are the reviews of each song
1.Tarot Woman- 10/10 Amazing opener to this album with Tony Careys jaw dropping intro. The guitar comes in louder and louder throughout the intro which adds an amazing effect to the song. Ronnies vocal work is incredible as always and this mystical song is one of Rainbows best. Blackmore's solo is one of my favorite Ritchie Blackmore solos with the fast flurries string bends and cool epic sounding lyrical lines. The fantasy theme is similar to the stuff on the debut execpt faster and honestly even though is this the 3rd best song on this album it's probably better than anything on the debut. Ronnie's ending note hold of "I Don't Know!" is awesome. The rythym section is perfect aswell and this maybe the first power metal song.
2.Run With The Wolf- 10/10 A killer riff and Ronnies slow powerful vocals along with his brilliant lyrics make this a Rainbow classic and an underrated masterpeice. This song is also only about 4 minutes and with Tarot Woman at 6 minutes and Stargazer and A Light In The Black over 8 minutes each. This reminds me of a darker Man On the Silver Mountain or 16th Century Greensleeves because it is short rocking fantasy song. Blackmore's first solo is cool and his second solo is even better. Powell's drumming is great too. This song never got the credit it deserved. The 4th best song on the album.
3.Starstruck- 10/10 One of the best riffs on the whole album and Ronnie displays great vocals aswell on this song which is about a crazy French Blackmore fan named Muriel who would follow Ritchie around. Really compliments the masterpeices of the album well.
4.Do You Close Your Eyes- 10/10 Doesn't compare to the other songs on this album but is a great song. Rainbow's commercial song of the album that was performed throughout the tour as an encore. With the other 5 classics this becomes the filler of the album but if you're into commercial rock you'll like it. Ronnie's vocal performance is great too and the riff is catchy as hell. Cool to hear Ronnie singing these lyrics too. This sounds like 80's Rainbow with Ronnie singing. This could have been a hit in the 60's, 70's or 80's.
5.Stargazer- Too good to be rated. The song is about a Wizard who takes people and makes slaves of them to build a giant tower of stone in the sky and because hes always looking at the stars they called this song Stargazer. But anyway this is the best song of all time! Ronnie puts togethor the best vocal performance ever and Blackmore's use of Arabian scales in the solo gives the song a great middle eastern feel. Also Cozy Powells drum intro is incredible. Ronnie is the only singer who could sing this song properly. At The end of the song Ronnie really starts singing very emotionally it will send chills down your spine as he belts out the albums title with his GIANT voice singing "I See A Rainbow Rising!, Look There On The Horizon" and Dio's yells of "Coming Home" are amazing and lead perfectly into A Light In The Black. Ronnie's LONG note holds of "Where Do We Go?!" are classic and when he belts out "Our time has arrived!" and "As he climbs to the top of the world!" it seems like the earth should shake when he sings those! This song has everything...virtuoso guitar playing, an awesome rocking riff, incredible vocals, amazing lyrics, virtuoso drumming, rock solid bass playing, awesome, keyboard playing and a cool orchestra part. This song is very progressive and one of the first power metal songs. This song has the best lyrics I've ever heard!
6.A Light In The Black- 10/10 This is the follow up to Stargazer as it's about the slave going home as the song was orginally going to be called Going Home. Ronnies second best vocal performance on the album. Ronnie also hits a high note with the most power I've heard when he belts out "KEY!". It seems impossible to sing a high note with such power. This song has spectacular performances by Blackmore and Tony Carey as their trade off is very reminiscent of Blackmore and Lord's trade offs...Yes its that good! Cozy Powell opens this song with an amazing drum intro and his drumming during this song is incredible. Ronnie also has plenty of long note holds at light speed in this song and his voice doesn't sound strained once! His lyrics are amazing too. Jimmy Bain's bass playing is perfect aswell. This is great early power metal.
Buy this it's the best value ever as this album is worth 5,000 dollars. All old style metal fans/power metal fans look at this as a classic album and after one listen you'll know why. I rate this album 10/10 and this is the only Rainbow MK II studio album. This album has everything and is one of the most diverse metal albums with epics, fast songs, slow songs, fantasy songs and commercial type songs. This is probably the first power metal album too. I'm not exaggerating about this album at all either! I'd say that every band member peaked on this album! This is one of those once in a lifetime albums. It's apparent how big an impact this album had since it topped the charts in many countries and got amazing reviews. Fans of Dio, Iron Maiden, Stratovarius, Hammerfall and many other power metal bands need to this album. it shows the roots of those bands. Also fans of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Elf, Kamelot and led Zeppelin will enjoy this. Some more proof of the impact this album had on metal was that it inspired Bruce Dickinson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dave Murray, Timo Tolkii, Janick Gers and many other great musicians.
