A quick look through all of these reviews will tell you this is a great album. In a world where so much fails to live up to hype - this album does and then some. It is almost ridiculously good. Stargazer, A Light In the Black and Tarot Woman are true epics with a enough musical invention to put most bands these days to shame. Stargazer and A Light In The Black couldn't be more different from each other and yet both make a strong case for being amongst the best metal/hard rock songs of all time. Making up the balance of the album are Run With The Wolf (great lyrics), and the more conventional rockers Starstruck and Do You Close your eyes.
It's a shame that so many people are only vaguely aware of this band. Ronnie James Dio has deservedly been recognized as one of hard rock's finest voices, and nowhere does he prove that better than on this album. His is simply a masterful and flawless performance. Ritchie Blackmore is every bit his equal, with superb riffs and incredibly musical solos. Few can place a tasteful solo into a song better than Blackmore. He is by far my favorite rock guitarist with unmatched tone, expression and musicality. His continued lack of recognition with the other "big name" rock guitarists is nothing short of criminal.
Don't hesitate: buy this album along with their first - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, and their third - Long Live Rock 'n' Roll.
Free Music Review: The best Rainbow-album Hit: 5 Stars
This definitely is the best album by rainbow. Dio sings fantastic on this album(ofcours he always sings fantastic) and the guitarsolo's and keyboardsolo's are great. The album kicks off with 'Tarot Woman'. That is a really good song. It starts with some mysterious keyboard play, and then you slowly hear the guitar becoming louder and louder, and then it breaks out. Great start of the album. Then 'Run with the Wolf', good song too. And at number three you get to hear 'Starstruck'. Another very good song which had been a great hit. So the first three songs are very good, well, it will only get better.
'Do you close your eyes' is good, but all the other songs on this album are better. After that one you get 'Stargazer'. That is definitely the best song on the whole album. I think it's even the best song of all rainbow-songs. 'Stargazor' is just magical. The song always gives me chills and I think it is THE highlight of this album. This album is THE highlight of all Rainbow's albums. I can't really explane more how I feel about 'Stargazor', it's just such a fantastic song.
The last song is 'Light at the Black'. Good song, and the guitarsolo and keyboardsolo are fantastic. So as you can here, this surely is the best Rainbow-album ever. I wont be the only one who will say that, just look at the other reviews and see.
Highly recommended!
Free Music Review: Old school Dungeons&Dragons Metal Hit: 5 Stars
Rainbow's RISING will take you on a mystical jouney though a land of Tarot women, wolves, dragons and grand wizards. its true, released in 1976 this was probably the first fantasy metal album ever made and it singlehandedly made it possible for powermetal to exist, influencing bands like Helloween and others. Of all of the Rainbow's albums, this is the most pretentious effort they released. It is the album that made Dio the star he is today, establishing his theme of rainbow/evil/dragon/sword&scorcery songwritting. I really love this album (along w/ the other two Dio era Rainbow albums),it sounds so dark and mystical when you listen to it, and you get mental imagages of fantasy landscapes and the creatures that inhabit them. With Jimmy Bain, Tony Carey and Cozy Powell(RIP) along with Ritchie and Dio, this is considered Rainbow's "classic" lineup. I agree, the musicianship is just so tight here, and every musicains here is a virtuoso but there is no clashing of ego's,no,everyone knows their place and works together to make the finest hardrock album known to man. There are onlt 6 tracks but all are amazing here, "Tarot woman" "Run with the wolf" "star struck" "do you close your eye's" "stargazer" and "a light in the black". A rare hardrock album but a extremly powerful and influential one nontheless.
Free Music Review: A masterpiece in "progresivehardrockmetalmelodic" music Hit: 5 Stars
All these descriptions deserves this incredible collection of songs manufacturated by Mr Blackmore and company, a dreamteam that just a few times in life its possible to put together , Mr Ronnie Dio in vocals, Mr Bain In bass, Mr Carey in keyboards and the great and saddly late Mr Cozy Powell in drums (owner by the way of a Guiness record for the biggest quantity of drums played in minutes) did you knew that? and of course the guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore , who also created the most known riff in rock history (intro for Purpple s , smoke on the water) a masterpiece within this masterpiece is of course "stargazer" and the blast of "a ligth in the dark" just a couple of examples of how is this recording achieved in germany in the late 70s when Rainbow emerged as a Blackmores side project to Deep Purpple and despite being conceived this way this amazing band for itself became one of the greatest bands in hard rock and heavy metal, technical skills of every band member (at least for this album) are also evident you can feel amazed for Powells drums and powerfull voice of Dio and awesome guitar riffs of Mr Blackmore also keyboards that despite being then quite primitive have that unique charm of that years.
a masterpiece, no doubt about it, no question

Free Music Review: Rainbow's best album Hit: 5 Stars
Since Ritchie Blackmore is such an unruly and meglomanic b*tch, EVERY SINGLE MEMBER(except Ronnie) was kicked out. Even though that shows how much of an ass he is, it proved to have two desirable results. A) Those guys didn't have to deal with Blackmore anymore, and B) We gained one of Rock's best drummers, Cozy Powell (god rest the man's soul). The album starts with "Tarot Woman", which is a solid rock song (even though it begins to show the constant loop that Ronnie has in his lyrics, including "carousels" and "I don't know" ;). Then we have "Run with the Wolf". Eh, the only song that isn't that good. The 3rd track is "Starstruck". Easily one of Rainbow's better songs. The bass is so simple (then again, so is Jimmy Bain), but it hits nice and hard. Then we have "Do You Close Your Eyes". Actually, let me correct myself. "Run with the Wolf" is actually a pretty good song. "Do You Close your Eyes", "Stargazer" is a classic Rainbow song that is excellent. The album ends with "A Light in the Black". This is the best song on the record. Overall, this is Rainbow's best album, and easily one of the best rock albums of the 70's.
