Free Music Review: Intense
Hit: 5 Stars

That's what this album is to me, in a word. One of the most intense records I have ever heard, hands down. Heavy metal as a genre was still in it's early stages when this was first released in 1976 and what a statement! This is, no doubt, one of the great metal classics of all time. I don't care what era you come from, if you love heavy music, this is an important album to experience. And I think it's important to point out too, at least from my experience, that this is a singular expressive thought/feeling coming from the band that is best heard as a unit and not just as a grouping of songs. I have this on my iPod but I would still prefer to hear the album the way it was intended, from start to finish. I love this record and am very proud to own it. Get it. You'll be glad you did.

Free Music Review: A Pot Of Gold!
Hit: 5 Stars

Of the entire Rainbow oeuvre this album is the creme de la creme. After Rainbow's debut, virtuoso guitarist Ritchie Blackmore retained only vocalist Ronnie James Dio. He then added mercenary drummer Cozy Powell, songwriter/bassist Jimmy Bain, and keyboard wizard Tony Carey. This lineup would create a solid groundbreaking album that still stands as one of the greatest hard rock albums ever. Each member really shines and there is not one rotten apple in the bunch. Granted there are only six songs but it still feels like I've been on a musical journey by the time the last song finishes. It is rare when so many great musical talents come together and make an album (and so only Dio remained for the next studio album). If you like 70s guitar rock with superb vocals and a splash of excellent keyboards then you will grow to love Rising!

Hit: 5 Stars

Did I not yet review the ultimate example of late 70's speed metal? Why not? What's wrong with me? I must have forgotten all about it.

Just about every song has an amazingly fast pace, and super exciting guitar playing. Ritchie Blackmore is just amazing on this record and really shows us why he deserves to be remembered as the influential brilliant legend he is.

Not a single weak moment anywhere. Radio stations are a fool for not playing this album. That's all I have to say about that. "Stargazer" is a hypnotic journey through the mind and "Light in the Black" will take you to any fast-moving place you want your mind to go.

Make sure THIS brilliant album is in your album collection, and shining every time you take it out of its case.

Free Music Review: The greatest classic rock album ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Definatly rainbow's best album, "rising" has the bands most potent lineup featuring the late cozy powell on drums, jimmy bain on bass and tony carey on keyboards in addition to the anchor of blackmore and dio. even though it's only 6 songs, all of them are masterpieces, i listen to it the whole way though. it also has the best rainbow song ever written, "stargazer". that song is amazing, i think it buries "stairway to heaven". its too bad they did not countiue this path as set with "rising", i thought "long live rock n roll" was too stripped down and simple where as "rising was beautiful and complex. this was dio's best band in my opinion, he fits rainbows music so well with his voice, he's a genius with lyrical metaphores which rainbow was all about. awesome rock album.

Free Music Review: 1 star for each song.

But, unfortunately I can only give it five. This album is a classic, right up there with Machine Head. "Tarot Woman" is an awesome opener. "Run With the Wolf" rocks along and is one of those songs that just gets stuck in your head. "Starstruck" is pretty good too. "Do You Close Your Eyes" isn't quite as good as the rest of the album, but excellent none the less. The real highlight of the album is "Stargazer." Wow. Wow. WOW. It left me stunned and speechless the first time I heard it. An epic in its own right. "A Light in the Black" is a great finisher for Rainbow's best album. Long Live Rock and Roll is a close second to this one. Rising is an essential must-have in any rock collection, especially for Deep Purple fans and people who don't own it. Verdict: Buy two.
