Free Music Notes for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]Free Music Review: Great way to start DIO's Career Hit: 5 Stars
Sadly, the opener 'Man on the Silver Mountain' didn't become a hard rock anthem like Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid' and 'Iron Man', Deep Purple's 'Smoke on the Water', and Kiss's 'Rock 'n' Roll All Nite and 'Detroit Rock City'. But oh well, at least this album made the U.S. Top 30 and it was when Ronnie James Dio tasted his first success, other worthy tracks are 'Sixteenth Century Greensleeves', 'Temple of the King', 'Catch the Rainbow' and the instrumental 'Still I'm Sad' (originally done by the Yardbirds). 'Black Sheep of the Family' and 'If You Don't Like Rock 'n' Roll' sounds similar to Elf (Ronnie James Dio and the other musician's previous band with the exception of Ritchie Blackmore, the guitarist of Deep Purple). If you love classic rock/metal, then you should get this album.
Free Music Review: Excellent. Hit: 5 Stars
This is the very beginning of Rainbow. Dio's singing has never been better. This proves that he had a soft side. He's not from hell. Ritchie Blackmore's playing is at his best. There's still a little leftover funk from Deep Purple, but there are some rare gems. Temple of the King, for instance. A very nice ballad. I love the instrumental from the Yardbirds. Classic. The only problem is that their isn't any long jams like on the 2nd album. Plus, some of the songs ramble on for a while. Catch the Rainbow should've ended around 4 and a half minutes, but instead, it's 6. Still, I can hear the power metal in the album. Nice playing from the keyboardist. I forgot his name. Very good debut.
Free Music Review: More than a Decent Album Hit: 5 Stars
I keep reading reviews of Rainbow albums as decent or average, which is an understatement. While Rainbow never reached the musical heights of Deep Purple, the band was, in it's own right, influential in creating the gothic hard rock sound that so many derivative 80's English metal bands embraced. I admit that I AM biased in Blackmore's favor, but that's because he is THAT good of a guitarist and quite underrated.
Listen to each song, but don't waste your time on "If You Don't Love Rock and Roll," which elicits about as much emotion as watching lichens growing on rocks. However, "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Self Portrait" are 70's metal classics.
Free Music Review: Don't let this album pass you by Hit: 5 Stars
"Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" is the best Rainbow album ever, and it's also one of the best rock albums of all time. The material is top quality. Leaving Deep Purple and hooking up with Ronnie James Dio was clearly the best alternative for Blackmore as well as for the music world. This album is vital and it seems that it was a fuel injection for both Blackmore and Dio (ex Elf). Listen to "Man on the silver mountain", "Self portrait", and "Temple of the king" and you'll discover that you won't find anything equally great these days. My only objection is that the last track "Still I'm sad" is instrumental since there is an alternative version with lyric - a real gem!

this is ritchie blackmores greatest ever guitar playing......he never sounded better......dio's voice is so awesome.....this certainly is one of my favorite cds.....this is classic metal at its best.....all other meatal outfits after this record owe this band a great deal of gratitude.....do not pass this one up.....it is the best from rainbow......gary driscoll is the better drummer for rainbow......the best songs on this album are "THE MAN ON THE SILVER MOUNTAIN" and the great instrumental, which was a remake of a great tune by the Yardbirds, called "STILL I'M SAD"
